Accounting Manager

Role Description Fit Precast is looking for an Accounting Manager to own the day-to-day accounting function at our Gastonia plant. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to be close to the operation - walking the yard, understanding how a job moves from order to pour to delivery, and making sure the numbers reflect what actually happened on the floor. You will start as the primary accounting resource at the site, doing much of the work yourself. As the business grows, you will build and lead a team that includes accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, and receiving. You will report to the head of our accounting team and work regularly with leadership across our holding company's portfolio of businesses. This is a small, flat organization — you will have real visibility with executives from day one rather than sitting several layers removed from the people making decisions. This role is built with a runway. As Fit Precast scales to additional locations, the expectation is that the right person grows into a multi-site Controller position, with this role backfilled underneath them What You'll Do Close and reporting - Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations - Produce timely financial statements and plant-level reporting for leadership - Maintain and improve the chart of accounts and the general ledger Job costing and manufacturing accounting - Own job costing and WIP: track labor, materials, and overhead against each job and explain variances - Maintain standard costs and analyze material usage, scrap, and yield - Partner with production and estimating to make sure bids, actuals, and margins reconcile - Report on cost per unit, plant productivity, and gross margin by product line and customer Inventory and receiving - Own inventory accounting for raw materials (cement, aggregate, rebar, strand, embeds, forms) and finished goods - Run cycle counts and physical inventories; investigate and resolve variances - Ensure receiving is tied cleanly to purchase orders and vendor invoices (three-way match) AP, AR, and cash - Oversee accounts payable: vendor setup, coding, approvals, payment runs, and vendor relationships - Oversee billing and accounts receivable, including progress billing, retainage, lien waivers, and collections - Manage cash forecasting and daily cash position Compliance and controls - Maintain internal controls and clean documentation, including segregation of duties as the team grows - Handle sales and use tax filings across the states we operate in - Maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation schedules - Support the outside CPA firm, bank, bonding/surety, and insurance audits Team and systems - Hire, train, and lead the accounting team as it builds out (AP, AR, inventory, receiver) - Own and improve our ERP, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, including process documentation and workflow automation - Identify and implement process improvements as volume grows What We're Looking For Required - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field - 3+ years of progressive, hands-on accounting experience, including exposure to full-cycle close - Manufacturing, construction, or other job-costing environment experience - Working knowledge of inventory accounting and cost accounting - Strong Excel skills and hands-on experience with an ERP system - Able and willing to work on-site five days per week in a plant environment, interacting daily with production and shipping - Willingness to do the work personally today and build the team for tomorrow Preferred - Precast concrete, building products, or heavy manufacturing background - Experience with AIA billing, retainage, and lien waivers - Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central experience - Prior supervisory experience, or a clear track record of taking on more than the job title required - Experience supporting a company through growth, a new site opening, or an ERP implementation Who thrives here - Detail-oriented without losing sight of the bigger picture - Comfortable with ambiguity and building process where none exists - Direct communicator who can explain financial results to people who don’t work in finance - Takes ownership rather than waiting for direction #J-18808-Ljbffr
