At Harlem Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, you will be part of a supportive team, doing meaningful work to improve the lives and health of our residents.The primary role of the Director of Housekeeping is to plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Housekeeping Department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator, to assure that the facility is serviced in a safe and comfortable manner.Job Responsibilities:Develop and maintain written housekeeping policies and proceduresDevelop, maintain and review written job descriptions and performance evaluations for housekeeping personnel in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, OSHA and other pertinent laws and regulationsAssist the housekeeping staff in the development and use of departmental policies, procedures, equipment, supplies, etc.Review the department's policies, procedure manuals, etc., at least annually for revisions and make recommendations to the Administrator (e.g. ADA, ergonomics, air quality, etc.)Interpret the department's policies and procedures to employees, residents, visitors, government agencies, etc.Assume the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability of directing the Housekeeping DepartmentCoordinate housekeeping services and activities with other related departments (i.e. Dietary, Nursing, etc.)Make written oral reports/recommendation to the Administrator as necessary/required, concerning the operation of the Housekeeping DepartmentSubmit accident/incident reports to the appropriate department within twenty-four (24) hours after the occurrence of the accident/incidentAssist the Infection Control Committee in identifying, evaluating, and classifying routine and job-related functions to ensure that housekeeping tasks involving potential exposure to blood/body fluids are properly identified and recordedParticipate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agenciesReview and develop a plan of correction for housekeeping deficiencies noted during survey inspections and provide a written copy of such to the AdministratorDelegate a responsible staff member to act in your behalf when you are absent from the facilityDetermine departmental staffing requirements necessary for the departmentRecommend to the Administrator and/or Human Resources Director/Representative the number and level of housekeeping personnel to be employedAssist in the recruitment and selection of housekeeping personnelAssign a sufficient number of housekeeping employees for each tour of dutySchedule department work (including vacation and holiday schedules), employees, work assignments, cleaning schedules, etc. to expedite workMonitor absenteeism to ensure that an adequate number of housekeeping employees are on duty at all timesReview and check competence of housekeeping personnel and make necessary adjustments/corrections as required or that may become necessaryCounsel/discipline housekeeping employees as requested or is necessary. Ensure that departmental disciplinary action is administered fairly and without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, age, sex, religion, handicap or marital statusTerminate the employment of personnel when necessary, documenting and coordinating such actions with the Human Resources Director and/or AdministratorMake daily rounds to assure that housekeeping employees are performing required duties and to assure that appropriate housekeeping procedures are being rendered to meet the needs of the facilityCommittee FunctionsServe on various committees of the facility (i.e., Infection Control, Safety, QA, etc.) and provide written/oral reports of housekeeping services and activities as required by the committee's guidelines or directionEvaluate and implement recommendations from established committees (i.e., Infection Control, Safety, QA, etc.Meet with housekeeping personnel, on a regularly scheduled basis, and solicit advice from inter-department Supervisors concerning the operation of the housekeeping department, assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or the improvement of servicesAttend department head meetings, etc., as scheduled or as may be calledSchedule and announce departmental meeting times, dates, places, etc.Personnel FunctionsDetermine departmental staffing requirements necessary to meet the maintenance department's needsAssist in the recruitment, interviewing, and selection of maintenance personnelEnsure that appropriate identification documents are presented prior to employment and that such records are maintained in the employee's personnel recordAssign a sufficient number of maintenance personnel for each tour of dutySchedule department work hours (including vacation and holiday schedules), personnel, work assignments, etc., to expedite workMonitor absenteeism to ensure that an adequate number of housekeeping personnel are on duty at all timesDelegate administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to other maintenance personnel as deemed necessary to perform their assigned duties (i.e., Assistant Director, Supervisors, etc.)Assist in standardizing the methods in which maintenance tasks will be performedReview and check competence of maintenance personnel and make necessary adjustments/corrections as required or that may become necessaryCounsel/discipline maintenance personnel as requested or as necessaryEnsure that departmental disciplinary action is administered fairly and without regard to race, color, creed, national without interruptionMake daily rounds to assure that maintenance personnel are performing required duties and to assure that appropriate maintenance procedures are being rendered to meet the needs of the facilityCreate and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis as well as a calm environment throughout the facilityStaff DevelopmentDevelop and participate in the planning conducting, scheduling, etc. of in-service training classes, on-the-job training, and orientation programs for housekeeping personnelEnsure that all housekeeping employees attend and participate in annual OSHA and CDC in-service training programs for hazard communication, TB management and bloodborne pathogens standaSafety and SanitationEnsure employees follow established safety regulations in the use of equipment/suppliesEnsure all personnel wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies (e.g. back brace, mechanical lifts, etc.) when lifting or moving heavy objectsEnsure current material safety data sheets for hazardous, chemicals used by the housekeeping department are on file and easily accessibleEnsure containers of hazardous chemicals in the department are properly labeled and storedEnsure all personnel performing tasks that involve potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or hazardous chemicals participate in appropriate in-service training programs prior to performing such tasksEquipment and Supply FunctionsRecommend to the Administrator the equipment and supply needs of the department.Make periodic rounds to check equipment and to assure that necessary equipment is available and working properlyCheck supply rooms and work areas to assure that needed supplies are readily available to perform assigned tasksMonitor housekeeping procedures to ensure that supplies are used in an efficient manner to avoid wasteEnsure that appropriate personal protective equipment used in the handling of infectious materials is available and easily accessible to housekeeping personnelMaintain inventory and records according to established policiesPlace orders for equipment and supplies as necessary or as may be requiredEnsure that equipment contaminated
