Cable Spotter

The Cable Spotter supports cable technicians working at a distribution facility by maintaining a safe work environment, monitoring surrounding activity, and assisting with the movement and placement of tools, materials, and equipment. The Spotter serves as an extra set of eyes for technicians, particularly when work involves ladders, lifts, overhead areas, restricted spaces, or active facility traffic. This position requires strong attention to detail, clear communication, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to work effectively alongside technicians and site personnel.

Responsibilities:

• Act as a dedicated safety spotter for cable technicians while work is being performed.
• Monitor the work area for employees, equipment, vehicles, obstacles, and other potential hazards.
• Maintain safe clearances around ladders, lifts, work areas, and overhead activities.
• Communicate clearly with technicians using verbal instructions, hand signals, or approved communication devices.
• Assist technicians with staging, carrying, organizing, and transporting cable, tools, and materials as needed.
• Help establish and maintain barricades, cones, signage, and controlled work zones.
• Watch for changing site conditions and immediately communicate potential safety concerns to the technician or supervisor.
• Assist with maintaining clean and organized work areas, including removing debris and excess materials.
• Follow all site safety requirements, access procedures, PPE requirements, and contractor policies.
• Support technicians in accessing work areas while ensuring that site traffic and pedestrian pathways remain safe.
• Report incidents, near misses, damaged equipment, hazards, or unsafe conditions promptly.
• Perform other general support duties as assigned by the cable technician or site supervisor.

Requirements:

• Ability to work safely in an active warehouse or industrial environment.
• Strong situational awareness and attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate effectively with technicians, supervisors, and site personnel.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ability to work for extended periods in cold or refrigerated areas.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and occasionally lift or carry materials throughout the workday.
• Ability to work around elevated work areas, ladders, lifts, cable pathways, and construction or installation activities.
• Commitment to following safety procedures at all times.
• Previous experience in construction, telecommunications, low-voltage cabling, warehouse operations, facilities, or industrial environments.
• Previous experience as a spotter, flagger, laborer, helper, or safety attendant.
• Familiarity with cable installation or structured cabling work.
• OSHA or other relevant safety training.
