Payroll Processing Specialist

The Payroll Processing Specialist plays a key role in ensuring employees are paid accurately, on time, and with confidence. Reporting to the Payroll Processing Manager, this position blends high-volume payroll processing with responsive employee supportserving as a trusted resource for payroll inquiries while driving efficiencies that reduce risk, administrative burden, and potential financial penalties for the university.

Key Responsibilities:

• Process payroll transactions with accuracy and timeliness, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures
• Serve as a primary point of contact for employee payroll inquiries, including direct deposit setup, updates, and troubleshooting
• Manage check distribution and related processes, ensuring secure and timely delivery
• Oversee the replacement check process for unclaimed or returned payments, resolving cases proactively and efficiently
• Reduce escheatment volume by identifying and addressing unclaimed payments, minimizing annual reporting requirements and risk exposure
• Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation to support audits and compliance efforts
• Collaborate with internal partners to improve payroll processes and enhance the employee experience

Qualifications:

• Minimum Experience/Education - Bachelor's degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
• Preferred Qualifications - Proficient with PeopleSoft (or other HRIM system) payroll processing, including taxes and deductions. Advanced MS Excel and Word, reporting application experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
