Registered Respiratory Therapist

Job Overview The Respiratory Therapist RRT provides advanced-level respiratory care to patients. Responsibilities include diagnosing, evaluating, treating, managing, and controlling deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system within the scope of the order physician’s prescription. The RRT acts as a resource to the CRT staff and may be assigned to special clinical projects or assignments as designated by leadership. Responsibilities Performs, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic testing procedures according to protocol. Obtains arterial gases and monitors patient response. Oversees and troubleshoots equipment operations for optimal patient care. Initiates Respiratory Protocols and interventions based on assessment interpretation. Administers medications safely and evaluates patient response according to protocol. Communicates patient progress to staff, physicians, and other departments. Maintains awareness of patient’s overall condition and communicates with physicians and nurses. Provides patient and family education on self‑care techniques and modalities. Completes documentation according to departmental standards and records productivity. Monitors supplies and equipment, notifying appropriate personnel when supplies are low, on loan, or broken. Utilizes time effectively to meet productivity standards, including low census periods. Participates in quality and patient safety initiatives, identifying process improvements and safety hazards. Participates in departmental meetings, contributing ideas or feedback. Promotes Respiratory Care profession and serves as a consultant and mentor to staff and patient care areas. Participates in quality improvement and research activities as part of the Respiratory Care Team. May be required to float to other departments within scope of competency and qualifications. May be required to be on-call during scheduled shifts. Performs other duties as assigned. Skills Respiratory Therapy Patient Education Patient Care Life Support Care Planning Critical Thinking Documentation Quality Improvement Follow Protocols Minimum Qualifications Graduate of an NBRC-approved Respiratory Therapist program from an accredited institution. Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT). Current state license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers. Specific certifications as required (e.g., PALS, ACLS, NRP). Physical Requirements Ability to see and read information, labels, and patient needs. Good verbal communication skills and rapid comprehension of alarms and spoken information. Manual dexterity for operating complex equipment and typing documentation. Capability to lift, transfer, and move patients, including heavy items, and to navigate busy clinical environments. Willingness to stand for extended periods. Location & Schedule Intermountain Health Lutheran Hospital, Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Full‑time position, 36 hours per week with shift differentials for evenings, nights, and weekends. Compensation Hourly rate ranges from $32.02 to $49.44, dependent on experience.
