Michigan School for the Deaf Job Posting Talent Acquisition Specialist - 2026-2027 School Year Internal and External Posting Only PLEASE CIRCULATE AND POST Job Description Michigan School for the Deaf (MSD) is a program that serves Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and their families throughout the State of Michigan. Programming and services are provided to both day students and students in our student housing. This position will report to the Head of School at Michigan School for the Deaf.
The Talent Acquisition Specialist is responsible for sourcing, attracting, and recruiting qualified candidates to meet an organization's staffing needs. This role focuses on building strong talent pipelines, coordinating the full recruitment lifecycle, and partnering with the HR Liaison regarding staffing needs. This position will lead social media to attract candidates. A majority portion of this role will be to travel in and out of state to recruit qualified applicants. Responsibilities:
• Partner with HR Liaison to identify staffing needs and define job requirements.
• Develop recruitment strategies tailored to specific roles and departments.
• Source candidates through job boards, professional networks, social media, employee referrals, career fairs, and other channels.
• Screen resumes, conduct initial candidate assessments, and send them to HR Liaison.
• Ensure a positive candidate experience.
• Manage applicant tracking within recruitment systems and maintain accurate candidate records.
• Track hiring metrics to improve recruitment processes and timelines.
• Support MSD branding efforts to attract high-quality candidates.
• Build and maintain relationships with colleges, community organizations, and external partners to support talent pipeline development.
• Serve as a social media content developer for the school, including outreach related to Flint and the broader Michigan community.
• Produce, Caption, and add accessibility information in ASL videos.
• Provide tours of MSD campus, school, and dormitory as assigned.
• Organize, plan, and coordinate events for recruiting, employee engagement, and other initiatives as assigned.
• Support relocation of new staff through connection with resources and ensuring transition Other Duties as Assigned
• Perform additional tasks or responsibilities as directed by the leadership to support department operations, organizational goals, or emergent staffing needs.
• Participate in meetings, trainings, or special projects as requested. State of Michigan Employees/MSD Contracted Employees: Position duties should not conflict with work schedule, if so, annual leave must be requested. If absent, you will not be paid for that day. Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
• Experience in staffing, education, or school-based operations strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of employment practices and relevant regulations.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to manage multiple openings and priorities at once.
• Knowledge of recruitment systems and applicant tracking data.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• American Sign Language skills required
• Previous experience with editing and video software.
• Required to travel by multiple modalities (planes, trains and automobiles).
Work Hours & Total Compensation:
• This position will work year round
• Monday - Friday 40 hours a week.
• Payments are made on a bi-weekly basis through GECS payroll
• Salary is $53,000
