The Public Affairs and Community Engagement (PACE) Division is seeking a seasonal Media Specialist to support the Department of Parks and Recreation’s communications and marketing efforts through strong writing, storytelling, and media support. This position plays a key role in sharing the Department’s impact, programs, and services with residents, partners, and stakeholders across Prince George’s County. The ideal candidate is a strong writer who understands how to translate government and community-focused work into clear, engaging, and accessible content that reflects the Department’s mission and brand. Key Responsibilities Writing & Editorial Content Write, edit, and proofread a wide range of materials including press releases, media advisories, feature stories, newsletters, website content, talking points, and social media copy Translate Department initiatives, programs, events, and policies into clear, compelling, and community-centered messaging Ensure consistency with Department branding, tone, and messaging standards Media & Public Affairs Support Assist with media outreach efforts, including drafting pitches and coordinating interviews Support preparation of press kits, media lists, and briefing materials Monitor and track media coverage related to Department initiatives Required Qualifications Strong writing and editing skills, with experience producing public-facing content Ability to write clearly for diverse audiences, including residents, media, and stakeholders Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Proficiency with Microsoft Office Preferred Qualifications Background in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or a related field Experience working in government, parks and recreation, nonprofit, or community based organizations Familiarity with media relations and public-sector communications Knowledge of Communications and Marketing best practices and digital storytelling May be subject to drug and alcohol testing.
