Duties

Help

As a Budget Analyst, at the GS-14 you will perform the following duties:

  • Serve as a liaison between the program offices, Office of Management and Budget (OMB) staff, Appropriations Committee stakeholders, and agency/department budget offices.
  • Performs a variety of administrative and analytical duties for the review, justification, and presentation of budgets.
  • Analyzes the potential effects of budgetary actions on the viability and attainment of program objectives.
  • Provides advice to management on the Federal budget and appropriations processes.

You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as:

Qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Qualification claims will be subject to verification.
  • Developing and rendering authoritative interpretations of the congressional and/or federal legislation, Executive Orders, Office of Management and Budget guidelines and directives, policies, and precedents.
  • Formulating, justifying, presenting, and reporting on the budget for a major program
  • Developing proposed appropriation language in support of new or revised program and budgetary requirements.
  • Providing analytical services to support the formulation, justification, presentation, enactment, and execution of budgets for an agency/departmental component.
  • Interpreting and assessing the impact of new and revised congressional and/or federal legislation on the formulation and execution of assigned program budgets.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
