NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS). These experienced professionals provide administrative, scientific, and technical support to the Agricultural Research Service through the Experienced Worker Program (EWP).
Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.
PLEASE NOTE: An ?Enrollee? is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An ?Enrollee? is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions. The enrollee shall not sign federal documents, authorize the use of federal funds, nor initiate or conduct federally funded research projects. The enrollee shall not author articles for publication as a federal employee, nor coordinate scientific research between the Government and private industry. The enrollee shall not present themselves as a Government employee or Government representative at meetings both foreign and domestic or when coordinating federal agencies? areas of research. The enrollee shall not make decisions on federally based research on behalf of Government policy makers, and the enrollee shall not supervise any Government employees.

Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 year(s) of experience in HVAC, electrical, maintaining pumps, replacing belts, filters and general maintenance of machinery and vehicles. OR 11th or Below in N/A ? No specific degree required
- Experience in HVAC, preferably with general maintenance of natural gas boilers, chillers, and air handling units. Experience with electrical wiring systems. Experience in maintaining plumbing fixtures. Experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment and vehicles.
- Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel
- Must be able to acquire skill to use Metasys computer software that controls the facilities HVAC systems.
Duties:
The enrollee will work alongside ARS staff on a full range of facility management services for the USDA-ARS, Morris, MN. The primary purpose of the position is to assist with day-to-day operations of the facility by advising on maintenance, remodeling, repair, and long-term functionality needs of the facility, associated buildings, structures, and grounds, and performing minor repairs and any special services required to support the Location's mission. - Advise on the scheduling and oversight of service vendors, contractors, and local utility companies, e.g., trash pickups, electric and gas utilities, pest control, facility repairs, and other service contractors. Maintain records of services, inspections and corrective actions. 30%
- Identify building system issues and develop appropriate repair plans utilizing in-house staff, cooperator, or contractor resources as required for electrical, plumbing, and HVAC repairs and alterations. 30%
- Provide preventative maintenance and minor repairs for buildings, grounds, and vehicles. 30%
- Assist in preparation of repair and maintenance proposals and facility upgrade recommendations. 10%
- Training will be provided as necessary by the agency.

- Physical requirements: Lifting and carrying: occasional lifting of 50 lbs., with team lifting of up to 100 lbs.; Movement: walking, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; Strength/Endurance: pushing/pulling equipment weighing up to 200 lbs.; Manual Dexterity: handling tools, operating machinery, and performing repairs; Environmental Exposure: working in hot/cold temperatures, with dust, fumes, odors, or at heights up to 30 feet; Vision and hearing: close-up vision for repairs and inspection, with clear hearing for safety and communication.
