After School Program Assistant

Unit: Office Of The Provost Department: Academic Affairs, Institute for TransformativeLearning Reporting to the co-directors of the Institute for TransformativeLearning in the Office of the Provost, the part-time programassistant will provide support in coordinating campus-wideexperiential learning activities and initiatives at VirginiaCommonwealth University. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Student Advising Conduct one-on-one student advising sessions withundergraduates interested in pursuing research opportunities.Student advising sessions may include educating students on thebasics of undergraduate research at VCU; exploring mentors relatedto students’ interest areas; and guiding students through theprocess of preparing to engage with faculty research mentors. Advise and support SLTAs interested in becoming Advanced SLTAsand Ambassadors to include educating on the SLTA journey andprogression, project identification, and management. Advise students interested in exploring and engaging with otherTransformative Learning opportunities, including VIPs,Service-Learning, and Academic Internships (as needed). Programming & Outreach Serve as a student-facing representative of TransformativeLearning at program activities and outreach events. This mayinclude tabling at student fairs, facilitating open houses,conducting informational meetings, and distributing promotionalmaterials. Assist the Coordinator of Service Learning and Coordinator ofUndergraduate Research with program activities, outreach, andevents, including planning and coordination of TransformativeLearning Week, the Annual Poster Symposium for UndergraduateResearch and Creativity, and other student presentationevents. Assist in marketing and promoting Transformative Learningactivities to VCU students (both summer and academic yearopportunities). Administrative Support Provides general administrative support for the Institute forTransformative Learning. Assists the Coordinator of Service Learning and Coordinator ofUndergraduate Research as needed. Supports students currently engaged in undergraduate researchand service learning with enhanced support and resources. Minimum Qualifications Ability to work collaboratively with peers, faculty, and staff,and a strong desire to support student success. Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, meetdeadlines, and stay organized while balancing multiplepriorities. Basic proficiency with standard productivity tools (e.g.,Microsoft Office suite, Google Workspace) and virtual communicationplatforms (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet). Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a staff member at VCU. Preferred Qualifications Experience as an undergraduate researcher and/or servicelearning student. Experience with peer mentoring and/or advising otherundergraduate students. Strong writing, public speaking, student engagementskills. Interest in academic program management and coordination.
