Role SummaryThe Vice President of the Department of Medicine (DOM) is accountable for guiding a broad portfolio of functions, including administrative operations, fiscal planning and oversight, clinical operations and strategy, research systems, leadership development, regulatory compliance, and administrative infrastructure. In close collaboration with DOM, BMCHS leadership, and the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine (CAMed), the VP evaluates, designs, implements, and monitors process improvements that advance clinical, research, and educational excellence. A central priority of this role is fostering a culture of timely, responsive, accurate, and high-quality administrative support for all missions of the DOM. The VP works in partnership with BMCHS leadership, DOM Section Chiefs and Vice Chairs, and CAMed Center Directors and leadership. Together with the Chair and COO, the VP develops and executes a multi-year plan to integrate activities and administrative structures in the Department of Medicine. This effort requires strategic insight, organizational acumen, and a high degree of emotional intelligence during a period of significant change. At the same time, the VP must build a cohesive administrative leadership team capable of driving integration while ensuring the smooth functioning of day-to-day operations across clinical care, research, and education. As the largest clinical department within BMCHS, the DOM comprises more than 500 faculty, 1,500 staff, and an annual budget of an approximately $200 million. QualificationsMaster’s degree (MBA, MHA, or equivalent) required. Strategic Thinking: Ability to align financial and operational strategies with the missions of BMC and BU.  Leadership & Interpersonal Acumen: A track record of inspiring and managing teams in challenging, high-stakes environments.  Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary to interface effectively with a large and diverse constituency of leaders, faculty, and staff across BMCHS and BU. An openness and ability to both give and receive feedback is critical.  Financial Acumen: Deep understanding of healthcare and academic financial models, including grants and funding mechanisms.  Collaboration: Skilled in navigating relationships between academic and clinical entities to achieve shared goals.  Innovation: Capacity to identify and implement solutions to enhance operational efficiency and financial sustainability.
