Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures, pre-operative appointments, follow-up visits, and applicable inpatient and outpatient exams to optimize surgical calendars
• Verify patient insurance and obtain pre-authorizations for all medical exams and procedures that require it
• Produce and maintain weekly surgical logs; maintain accurate records, files, and reports relative to daily schedules
• Review department request forms to ensure completeness of clinical information, patient demographics, and clinician signatures; distribute required documentation to appropriate departments and patient care areas
• Field calls and faxes from provider offices, inpatient floors, community health centers, and patients; process add-on cases and scheduling requests efficiently
• Assist with front desk coverage, incoming mail distribution, and ensuring procedure preparation materials are sent to patients

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; no prior experience required
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to obtain and exchange accurate information with patients, physicians, and staff
• Ability to read and write in English
• Ability to pay close attention to detail

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Prior experience with scheduling in a medical or surgical setting
• Knowledge of insurance and billing processes
• Familiarity with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Meditech, Athena, or Epic
