Power Systems Field Technician – South Elgin, IL We are looking for a Power Systems Field Technician to report out of our South Elgin, IL branch. This is a union position with Local 150. Pay range: $41.57–63.95 per hour based on experience. Complete service reports, PM checklists, and timecards in alignment with departmental standards. Leverage previous experience to perform service tasks efficiently and accurately. Communicate job updates to clients and internal team members to maintain customer satisfaction. Maintain inventory of onboard parts. Perform comprehensive visual inspections and testing on engine and generator sets, documenting deficiencies during preventive maintenance. Keep the service truck in good condition. Incorporate Alta’s Guiding Principles into daily activities. Perform additional duties as assigned. Ensure consistent, reliable attendance and readiness for work at designated start time. Be available for after‑hours calls and overnight work. Skills and Qualifications Previous experience with CAT, Cummins, and Volvo engines is required. Minimum of three years in electric power generator maintenance and repair. Excellent mechanical aptitude with strong understanding of engine, power train, hydraulics, and electrical systems. Own personal tools. Positive attitude and high energy. Basic proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Intermediate reading and writing abilities for safety rules, operating instructions, and reports. Basic mathematical skills for handling money and measurements. Intermediate reasoning ability for analytical tasks. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Physical Demands / Work Environment Regularly stand, walk, use hands and reach; frequently talk/hear, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Lift up to 25 lb regularly; 26–50 lb frequently; occasionally 51–100 lb or more. Work near moving mechanical parts; exposed to fumes, particulate matter, outdoor weather, extreme heat or cold, wet or humid conditions, risk of electrical shock, vibration.
