MFLC Assignment Ready Counselor - New York

Overview This position requires licensure at the independent level in any state as a Mental Health Counselor, Therapist, or Social Worker. The Assignment Ready Counselor (ARC) provides coverage in short-term, surge, and on-demand situations to support MFLC programs, particularly for On Demand Events, Surges, Summer Camps, and Backfills. The ARC CYB (Child and Youth Behavioral) counselors may be assigned to DoDEA schools and community schools and will have experience working in a school setting. CYB counselors may also be assigned to youth programs, summer camps, and on-demand assignments. ARC adult counselors may support MFLC services in military community and readiness centers, as well as on-demand and surge assignments. Counselors work closely with installation Points of Contact (POC) to ensure the program operates within scope and meets installation needs. Responsibilities Provide non-medical, short-term, solution-focused counseling to adults, children, and youth of service members. Deliver assessment, brief counseling, action planning, referral to resources, and follow-up as indicated. Offer training and health and wellness presentations; participate in health fairs and base/installation activities. Consult with parents, personnel at child daycare centers and schools, and installation command regarding behavioral health issues affecting military personnel and families. Enter counselor activity data daily through smartphone or web application, ensuring reporting accuracy while maintaining confidentiality and anonymity of service/family members. Support CYB staff in DoDEA/community schools, youth programs, and summer camps; provide parent training and guidance as needed. Develop and maintain relationships with community resources and provide appropriate linkages. Coordinate with POC to provide Adult and CYB services addressing installation/facility needs; establish strong working relationships with the installation/facility POC. Respond to critical incidents and special requests as directed by POC and approved by the program manager. Manage duty to warn and restricted reporting situations per DoD protocol; participate in supervision and reporting discussions with Regional Supervisors/Directors as applicable. Qualifications Master’s Degree from an accredited graduate program in a mental health field or social work. Current licensure meeting state, Commonwealth, or customer-specific requirements; independently licensed behavioral health clinician. Ability to quickly engage and communicate with military members, spouses, or children; respond to emergent situations in military installations or school settings. Willingness to accept assignments of undefined periods on short notice; able to cover full-time assignments of varying length, including weekends. Advanced knowledge of brief therapy and solution-focused counseling methods. Experience with military culture or prior military service/familiarity is desired; for CYB positions, meet Magellan MFLC CYB criteria for experience with children and youth and specialization in child/adolescent development/psychology. Ability to traverse multiple locations and adapt to outdoor and base conditions; comply with site-specific requirements and immunization/vaccination records as needed. Fluent in English and able to demonstrate US citizenship when required. Additional Information Service Contract Act (SCA) position; pay rate and health/welfare allowance per wage determination.
