Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiac Stepdown / CVU

Location

Omaha, NE

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Night Shift | Onsite | Shifts: 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM or 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM (nights); every other weekend required

Key Responsibilities

• Provide intermediate-level cardiac and vascular nursing care for a stepdown unit of up to 18 beds, maintaining nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4 (1:3 for post-surgical patients within the first 24 hours)
• Titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, cardizem, and other blood pressure management medications
• Monitor, read, and interpret telemetry strips independently; unit utilizes both hardwired and telebox capabilities with remote tele tech support
• Care for patients with diagnoses including CVA, CHF, A-fib with RVR, post-cath lab, and other cardiac and vascular conditions, as well as downgraded CVICU patients supporting thoracic, EP, and structural heart programs
• Collaborate with on-site hospitalists, intensivists, cardiology (on call after hours), and respiratory therapy available 24/7
• Float to units of the same or lower acuity level as needed

Required Qualifications

• Active RN licensure
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a cardiac stepdown or equivalent patient population
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips independently
• Demonstrated experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Must successfully pass a unit-specific open-book skills exam with a score of 90% or higher during orientation

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience supporting thoracic surgery, electrophysiology, cath lab, or structural heart programs
• Familiarity with BiPAP and CPAP respiratory equipment in a stepdown or ICU setting
• Prior experience in a high-acuity cardiac environment with frequent drip titration
