Schedule: 24-hour shifts (0700-0700); call-based schedule (12 hours per week)

About the Role

ShareSTAFF is hiring a Cardiothoracic Surgeon (MD) for a contract assignment at a Hospital – on-site, inpatient and outpatient (OR, CVICU, Clinic) in Topeka, Kansas. On-site locum Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS. Established CTS program with full surgical team — surgeons, APPs (5), perfusionists, dedicated OR and CVICU. Full case mix: CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, TCAR, thoracic, vascular, carotid, endo AAA. Inpatient and outpatient (clinic). Minimum 2 weeks/month commitment; 12 call days/month (0700–0700). 6-month assignment beginning October 2026. ShareSTAFF provides malpractice — no cost to provider.

What You'll Do

• Perform adult cardiac surgery — CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, TCAR, thoracic, vascular, carotid, endo AAA
• Inpatient: 4–6 patients per day
• Outpatient clinic: 6–7 consults per day, minimum 1 clinic day per week
• Shared CTS call coverage: approximately 12 call days/month (0700–0700)
• One weekend call per month
• Weekday call 2 weeks per month
• Collaborate with APPs (5 on team), anesthesia, perfusionists, and CVICU teams
• Assist with APP education as needed

What You Bring - Required

• MD or DO — active Kansas medical license (IMLC considered case-by-case — license must be fully active at start)
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery
• Completion of accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery residency/fellowship
• BLS, ACLS, ATLS, PALS — required to start
• Active DEA registration
• Clean OIG/Medicare exclusion history
• Adult cardiac surgery required — CABG, valve (AVR/MVR), open procedures
• Thoracic and vascular experience preferred (TAVR, TCAR, endo AAA)
• Comfort with high-acuity inpatient and OR environment
