Sterile Processing Technician (SPT)

Position Overview

The Sterile Processing Technician plays a critical role in supporting surgical services by ensuring the proper sterilization and availability of surgical instruments and supplies. This position requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and effective communication skills in a fast-paced environment.

Expectations and Responsibilities

• Notify the supervisor upon arrival by calling the designated number.
• Change into surgical scrubs before starting your shift; scrubs must be returned at the end of the shift.
• Wear hairnets and shoe covers as required, and refrain from using earbuds while working.
• Utilize badge access to enter required locations; obtain a temporary badge if access issues arise.
• Learn and perform instrument picking, following guidance from the supervisor.
• In the absence of instrument picking duties:
  
  
  • Check carts for missing instruments and locate them as necessary.
  • Organize carts according to the surgical schedule.
  • Scan items from put-away shelves into their designated locations.
  • Identify and stock missing materials as indicated on the case cart pick list.
  • Assist in restocking returned supplies as needed.
• Ensure all trays and instruments are properly scanned and tracked to maintain health and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Previous experience with case cart management is essential.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work in a dynamic and sometimes high-pressure environment.

Shift Details

This position requires a commitment to a Day shift, working three 12-hour shifts each week.
