ABOUT THE ROLEThe Director of Electrical Engineering is a senior technical and people leader within the Product Development organization, responsible for the electrical and electronic systems across our entire product portfolio.This role leads a team of electrical engineers developing complex, connected consumer products from early concept and architecture through design, verification, certification, manufacturing launch, and sustaining engineering. The Director establishes the technical direction and engineering standards for the organization while ensuring programs meet performance, quality, reliability, cost, schedule, safety, and manufacturability objectives.The successful candidate combines strong technical depth with organizational leadership. They are comfortable moving between product architecture, detailed design reviews, difficult technical problem solving, supplier discussions, organizational planning, and executive-level communication. They develop strong engineers, create an environment of technical rigor and accountability, and work effectively across disciplines to deliver exceptional products.YOUR DAILY IMPACT AT PELOTONLead a team of approximately 20 engineers and support personnel located both in the Woodinville and Taiwan offices. Develop, encourage, and drive the team to produce their best work for the companyProvide technical guidance and final decision making authority on all product electrical architectures. Provide technical leadership throughout the product development lifecycle, from concept feasibility through architecture development, prototyping, mass production, and sustaining engineeringEnsure appropriate engineering rigor while maintaining the speed and flexibility required in a fast-moving product development environmentEnsure the appropriate balance of internal development with ODM, JDM, contract engineering, and supplier-developed solutionsEnsure the availability of adequate facilities, equipment, and software toolsLead and participate in architecture reviews, schematic reviews, PCB/layout reviews, design reviews, failure investigations, and technical readiness reviewsDrive root-cause analysis of complex hardware and system-level failures using structured, data-driven problem-solving methodsEnsure designs meet applicable regulatory, safety, EMC, environmental, and product-specific requirements, including relevant UL, IEC, FCC, CE and other global standardsChampion design for reliability, manufacturability, testability, cost, serviceability, and quality throughout developmentDevelop reusable architectures, platforms, design methodologies, and technologies that improve engineering efficiency and accelerate future product developmentPartner with Product Management, Program Management, Mechanical Engineering, Software/Firmware, Industrial Design, Quality, Supply Chain, Safety/Compliance, and other functions to successfully deliver productsEstablish staffing and resource plans across multiple concurrent development programs and balance near-term program needs with longer-term technology developmentCommunicate technical status, risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholdersBuild productive relationships with suppliers while maintaining clear ownership of product requirements, technical decisions, quality, and engineering standardsMake timely decisions when faced with incomplete information and drive teams toward resolution rather than allowing technical uncertainty to stall programsYOU BRING TO PELOTONBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Master’s preferredMinimum 10 years of significant experience developing the electronics hardware for complex electromechanical consumer products5+ years of engineering leadership experience, including direct people management and responsibility for engineering teamsExperience with high-volume manufacturing and working directly with contract manufacturers, ODMs, component suppliers, and technology partnersWorking knowledge of EMC/EMI, product safety, reliability, environmental qualification, and global regulatory complianceStrong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical subjects effectively to both engineering teams and senior business leadersTravel expectations: 25% total. A typical year might include 4 to 5 multi-week trips to Asia, plus 2 to 3 trips to our New York headquartersThis is an onsite position with the expectation of 4 days per week spent in office#LI-JS2#LI-HybridThe base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position based at our Woodinville, WA headquarters. The actual base salary offered for this position will depend on numerous factors including, without limitation, experience and business objectives, and if the location for the job changes.
