Registered Respiratory Therapist - IRP 2

Scope of Position The registered respiratory therapist will assess the need for and provide all types of diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory therapy procedures throughout the medical complex for patients of all ages in accordance with hospital and department policies. These procedures will be provided as a result of a physician order, or in accordance with a department or hospital policy. Position Summary Assess and provide all types of diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care procedures. Duties and Responsibilities Equipment (30%) - assess, communicate, set up, operate, maintain ventilators, Bi-PAP/CPAP, oxygen and aerosol equipment; keep up to date with state‑of‑the‑art equipment; demonstrate cost‑effective use; identify improvement opportunities. Procedures (30%) - assess and administer respiratory therapy procedures (nebulizer, MDIs, incentive spirometry, airway clearance, CPAP); communicate therapy changes; stay current on procedures; provide compassionate, patient‑centered care; prioritize work and identify improvement opportunities. Diagnostics (5%) - perform bedside tests including pulmonary function, pulse oximetry, and capnometry; communicate results; recommend therapy changes; maintain compassion and sensitivity. Whole Blood Analysis (10%) - obtain arterial blood, perform blood gas analysis; recommend therapy; communicate results; conduct quality monitoring. Education (10%) - assess patient and family education needs, document in compliance with policies; provide instruction and mentoring to staff and students. Charge (5%) - serve as charge therapist; ensure compliance with policies; organize and adjust workload for quality patient care and productivity. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (5%) - perform CPR. Intubations (EAST Only, 5%) - perform intubations. Home Oxygen/Equipment (5%) - assess needs and assist in arranging home oxygen and respiratory therapy equipment. Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post‑offer process.
