Senior Medication Support & Fulfillment Specialist - Mail Order Pharmacy

Position Summary The Senior Medication Support & Fulfillment Specialist is responsible for providing pharmacy services within a mail‑order pharmacy setting, supporting both traditional and specialty medication patient support and fulfillment. The role includes reviewing patient profiles for duplication of therapy, processing prescription orders, resolving insurance and billing issues, and preparing prescription orders for final pharmacist review prior to dispensing. The Specialist ensures adherence to safety, best practice standards, URAC guidelines, and health plan performance guarantees. Key performance metrics include call response time, dispensing accuracy, timely shipping, and overall patient/client experience. The Specialist works under the direct supervision of the pharmacist or management team to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered pharmacy services. Essential Responsibilities / Duties Patient Medication and Client Support – manage and support patient medication prescription profiles. Provide outbound therapy/medication adherence check‑ups and process refills to ensure no gaps in treatment. Review profiles for medication reconciliation, duplication of therapy, and synchronization under pharmacist supervision. Ensure timely filling, renewal, and refilling of prescriptions to increase medication compliance. Follow applicable federal and state laws and regulations to ensure patient safety and protect privacy (e.g., HIPAA). Patient Engagement – encourage patients to keep contact information up‑to‑date, provide continuity of medication adherence support using available tools, build relationships with patients to ensure ongoing engagement and utilization. Medication Fulfillment Competencies – perform central fill, traditional, and specialty prescription fulfillment. Personnel Responsibilities – build and maintain relationships with patients, providers, care teams, and ancillary support; maintain professional competency including national technician certification and participation in training and continuing education. Maintain familiarity with department policies and procedures, adjust to changing needs, keep information confidential, maintain a clean work environment, follow behavioral and safety standards, and adhere to infection control protocols. Maintain and support pharmacy relationships to ensure seamless transition of patient care. Operational Responsibilities – communicate effectively at all levels, solve problems, navigate electronic medical records, coordinate with providers, managers, and pharmacy liaisons, resolve high‑level patient care issues, work independently, and train new team members. Job Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Massachusetts Registered Pharmacy Technician required. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required. Minimum of four years progressively responsible experience in a pharmacy setting. Knowledge and Skills Energetic, positive, supportive, and pleasant disposition. Effective interpersonal skills to interact with hospital staff, patients, physicians, and colleagues. Strong operational, critical thinking, analytical, and strategic planning skills for efficient time management. Knowledge of pharmacy licensing requirements and general compliance standards. Knowledge of inventory control systems, automation, and advanced system features. Ability to introduce change, implement new programs, maintain performance, and analyze operational procedures. Experience in outpatient and inpatient pharmacy services. Use of data for performance improvement and evidence‑based decisions. Delegation skills and evaluation of team performance. Judgment, tact, and diplomacy. Presentation and content development skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and web browsers. Adherence to BMC’s RESPECT behavioral standards. Compensation Range $22.36 – $31.25 (base salary). The range is an estimate based on minimum qualifications and considers education, experience, skills, and certifications. Total compensation includes medical, dental, vision, pharmacy benefits, bonuses, merit increases, Flexible Spending Accounts, 403(b) savings matches, paid time off, career advancement opportunities, and resources for employee well‑being.
