The RN assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to patients utilizing the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources. The RN performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit specific to the scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories related to specific areas of practice. The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided. This documentation assures the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. The RN completes an initial assessment upon patient admission. The RN develops an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. The RN modifies the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety. The RN reports and/or corrects safety hazards and incidents. The RN communicates with others directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues. The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers. The RN confers with colleagues to expand their knowledge base. The RN identifies their own learning needs and takes initiative to begin appropriate solutions. The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. The RN monitors patients for seizure activity 24/7. The RN ensures good communication with patients and families. This is achieved through meaningful hourly rounding, bedside shift reports, and the use of whiteboards. The RN works with the critical care team for Advanced Care patients. The RN collaborates with hospitalists for Advanced Care patients.
