And then we'll upgrade it all again.Lumafield is headquartered in San Francisco, CA. and has an office in Cambridge, MA.About the RoleThe Hardware Group is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to help design, prototype, and refine the next generation of our industrial CT scanning systems. You'll work across disciplines - from motion systems and structures to system integration and user-facing features - to develop reliable, manufacturable, and innovative solutions.Our product is a complex hardware-software system. Success in this role requires systems thinking, hands-on prototyping, and the ability to bring structure to ambiguous design problems. You'll collaborate with electrical, firmware, systems, and software engineers to create hardware that's not just functional, but delightful to use.This is a hands-on, in-person role based in our Cambridge, MA office.What You'll Do:Lead the technical aspects of mechanical design for complex assemblies and subsystems, developing well-scoped milestones to deliver on quarter-scale goals.Follow your inventions through the full product lifecycle, from concept and design to first engineering builds and transfer to mass manufacturing.Accelerate project timelines by leveraging your technical expertise to make informed tradeoffs in scope and execution.Decompose business goals into technical solutions that can be executed by multiple individuals on the team.Drive cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders to identify technical needs and develop effective engineering goals.Actively work with and mentor more junior colleagues to help them refine their craft.About You:Can identify appropriate solutions to ambiguous, under-defined, and open-ended problems.Excel at navigating ambiguity and remaining resilient through the ups and downs of a project.Effectively communicate and coordinate requirements with other teams, tailoring your message to the audience.Consider the short- and long-term impacts of large technology choices.Serve as a role model for other engineers, and model a standard of excellence.Have an enthusiasm for utilizing AI tools to their fullest to improve quality and increase speed.Typically have a bachelor's or master's degree and multiple years of relevant experience executing a broad range of activities directly applicable to the role.Bonus Points:Experience leading projects through a complete product lifecycle, including through early manufacturing and into mass production.Experience designing motion systems, precision mechanisms, or mounting for imaging systems.Background in industrial automation, inspection, or scientific instrumentation.A portfolio of mechanical designs, prototypes, or shipped products you can share.$140,000 - $170,000 a yearLumafield offers both competitive cash and equity compensation, as well as a health & wellness stipend, 401k, parental leave, flexible PTO, commuter benefits, company wide events and more!Lumafield is committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills, because the more inclusive we are, the better our work will be.
