Medical Assistant
Pain Care, LLC.
Position Summary The Pre-Op Medical Assistant/Triage MA plays a dual role in both administrative and clinical tasks to ensure smooth operations within the medical office and efficient patient flow. This position is responsible for preparing patients for surgery, assisting with preoperative care, assessing patient needs, and supporting physicians and nurses by providing essential patient information and care. This position is unique in that you will be working in the ASC as needed and working in clinic as triage when the ASC is closed Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Prepare patient charts for upcoming visits and surgeries, ensuring all necessary information is available. Conduct patient interviews to gather medical history, check vital signs, and measure weight and height. Set up and maintain treatment rooms, ensuring they are clean and organized. Collect and accurately log laboratory specimens. Assist with venipuncture and IV insertions. Present patients’ medical information to healthcare providers before examinations or surgery. Safeguard patient information, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and secure medical records. Safely escort patients to exam rooms and assist with their preoperative preparation (e.g., confirming NPO status, medication adjustments, and ensuring the presence of a driver for post-op care). Monitor and maintain surgical instruments and medical equipment (e.g., medical fridge temperatures, glucometers). Help nurses with patient recovery and discharge as needed. Perform triage by assessing patient symptoms, prioritizing care, and coordinating follow-up actions or referrals. Ensure surgical instruments are sterilized and safely handled. Support the medical team with any other duties as assigned. Travel between clinic locations, Fayetteville, Griffin, Stockbridge, and Newnan as needed. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) High School Diploma or GED required; Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) preferred. IV certification or experience with venipuncture preferred. Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and infection control procedures. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers. Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑stress environment while maintaining attention to detail. Strong organizational skills and proactive problem‑solving abilities. Empathy toward patients, commitment to patient confidentiality, and dedication to providing high‑quality care. Flexibility and willingness to travel between clinical locations as needed. Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions. The Clinical Triage role involves both physical and mental demands, requiring the ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods during patient care and administrative tasks. The specialist must be capable of lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds and performing tasks that require manual dexterity, such as handling medical instruments, typing, and charting. The position demands precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to perform repetitive movements. The work environment is typically in a clinical setting, which includes exposure to medical equipment, bodily fluids, and other potentially hazardous materials. Adherence to strict safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), is essential. The specialist may also encounter moderate noise levels and varying temperatures. The role requires resilience to high‑stress situations, especially when managing patient emergencies or urgent care needs. Note This job description is intended to provide a general overview of the position and its responsibilities. It is not an exhaustive list of all duties, and the Medical Assistant may be required to perform additional tasks as needed. All duties and responsibilities are essential functions and requirements and are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities. To perform this job successfully, the incumbents will possess the skills, aptitudes, and abilities to perform each duty proficiently. Some requirements may exclude individuals who pose a direct threat or significant risk to the health or safety of themselves or others.
