Job Description The Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Washington invites applications for six (6) full-time Cardiothoracic Surgery Intensive Care (CTICU) Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant positions to support the rapid expansion and growth of the CTICU unit at the University of Washington Montlake Campus. Successful candidates will be expected to support the department's commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. This position provides a faculty appointment at the rank of Teaching Associate in the Department of Surgery with an anticipated start date in Fall 2026. Teaching Associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The base salary range for this position will be: $10,326 - $15,391 per month commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Relocation assistance may be available for out-of-state candidates. The University of Washington Medical Center Montlake Campus CTICU is a fast paced, high acuity unit providing exceptional care for heart and lung transplant patients, patients requiring mechanical circulatory support devices (including a large volume of VA/VV ECMO patients), complex aortic and adult congenital post-surgical patients and general cardiac, thoracic and vascular post-surgical patients requiring critical care management. The existing CTICU APP team is now expanding in response to unprecedented growth. The Cardiothoracic Surgery Intensive Care (CTICU) Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a member of the Cardiothoracic Surgery CTICU multidisciplinary team that includes physicians, residents, fellows, and RNs providing intensive care services to patients and families. The CTICU APP role promotes independent clinical practice within a highly collaborative and established team model and is well supported with dedicated 24/7 in-house CTICU intensivist support. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing independent and collaborative patient management from admission to the CTICU through transfer of care to the acute care setting. Responsibilities include the following: Work on a dedicated cardiothoracic inter-professional team with other established APPs, critical care physicians and cardiothoracic surgeons in addition to the multidisciplinary team. Perform bedside ICU procedures including central line and arterial line placements, bronchoscopy, and point of care ultrasound 24/7 dedicated CTICU in-house intensivist support Comprehensive 3-4 month 1:1 precepted onboarding available with an established team of experienced critical care APPs Flexible schedule with rotating day/night/weekend coverage requirements Participate in the education of nursing and resident staff. Participate in quality improvement projects and process improvement activities for the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Performs other related duties as required. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Qualifications Applicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications: Current and valid WA State Registered Nurse Licensure for ARNP or Physician Assistant licensure for PA-C. Graduate Degree from and accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or accredited Physician Assistant Program. Nationally certified ARNP/PA and eligible for DEA. Proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment Effective interpersonal and leadership skills ACLS Certification Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing Basic computer knowledge and command of basic personal computer skills Prior critical care or cardiothoracic surgery experience strongly preferred; extremely motivated new graduates with relevant critical care and cardiothoracic surgical training backgrounds may be considered for hire with an extended onboarding period Compensation, Benefits and Position Details Pay Range Minimum $123,912.00 annual Pay Range Maximum $184,692.00 annual Other Compensation Benefits Shift First Shift (United States of America) Temporary or Regular?
