Job Title: Journeyman Electrician (1st Shift) Job Description

This 1st shift Journeyman Electrician role focuses on installing, maintaining, and repairing complex industrial electrical systems, robotics, and production machinery in a manufacturing environment. The position supports the reliability and uptime of automated fire protection manufacturing lines while strictly adhering to safety regulations and documented procedures. The electrician works with advanced automation technologies, including industrial robots and programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and collaborates closely with maintenance and tooling teams to ensure smooth, efficient plant operations.

• Install power supply wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus for new and existing industrial machinery, including robots, conveyors, and PLC-controlled equipment.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams to plan and execute installations, modifications, and repairs.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues in transformers, motors, electronic controls, lighting fixtures, and related equipment using appropriate test instruments and methods.
• Repair and replace faulty electrical components such as relays, switches, sensors, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and electric motor bearings to restore equipment to proper operation.
• Program, configure, and adjust automated machinery using robot controllers, teach pendants, and PLCs, and run operational tests to verify correct function after installation or repair.
• Perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems and production machinery, including scheduled inspections, cleaning, adjustments, and component replacement to reduce unplanned downtime.
• Document all work performed by maintaining accurate records of work orders, electrical modifications, and equipment changes in accordance with plant maintenance procedures.
• Collaborate with Maintenance Machine Repairers and Tool Makers to distinguish between mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults and to coordinate effective repairs.
• Install, bend, and route conduit to support new and modified electrical installations while maintaining neat, organized, and code-compliant layouts.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance equipment reliability, safety, and energy efficiency through electrical upgrades and best practices.
• Follow all plant safety rules, lockout/tagout procedures, and electrical safety standards while working on live and de-energized equipment.
• Assist with commissioning new production lines and equipment by verifying electrical connections, testing control systems, and ensuring all devices operate as designed.

• Current Journeyman Electrician license.
• Industrial manufacturing experience working with production machinery and automated equipment.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
• Hands-on experience with equipment installation, including power supply wiring, conduit installation, and electrical apparatus setup.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical systems, including transformers, motors, electronic controls, and lighting circuits.
• Demonstrated ability to install, bend, and route conduit in an industrial environment.
• Experience working with hydraulics, mechanical systems, and pneumatics in coordination with electrical systems.
• Ability to diagnose and repair relays, switches, sensors, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and electric motor components.
• Experience with automation and robotics, including the use of robot controllers and teach pendants.
• Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) for programming, adjustments, and testing.
• Commitment to following safety regulations, lockout/tagout procedures, and electrical safety standards.
• Strong documentation skills for recording work orders, maintenance activities, and equipment modifications.

• Experience supporting automated manufacturing lines and high-volume production environments.
• Background in working closely with maintenance and tooling teams to resolve cross-functional equipment issues.
• Exposure to continuous improvement or reliability-focused maintenance practices.
• Ability to communicate clearly with production, engineering, and maintenance personnel regarding electrical issues and solutions.
• Comfort working with both older legacy equipment and modern automated systems.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, work orders, and priorities within a shift.

This role is based in an industrial manufacturing facility located in Hastings, Michigan, operating on a 1st shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The environment centers on automated fire protection manufacturing lines, with extensive use of industrial robots, conveyors, PLC-controlled systems, and other advanced production machinery. Work frequently involves being on the production floor around running equipment, electrical panels, and mechanical systems, requiring consistent adherence to safety procedures and lockout/tagout practices. The position involves hands-on tasks such as conduit bending, wiring, equipment installation, and troubleshooting, often using standard electrician tools, test instruments, and programming devices like robot controllers and teach pendants. The setting is fast-paced and team-oriented, with close collaboration among electricians, maintenance technicians, and tool makers to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently. Appropriate industrial work attire and personal protective equipment are required to perform daily tasks safely.

This is a Permanent position based out of Hastings, MI.

The pay range for this position is $66414.00 - $80787.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
