Senior Technologist, Ultrasound-General - Fort Hamilton

Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Technologist, Ultrasound‑General. The successful candidate will perform diagnostic sonographic examinations using ultrasonic equipment in various modes and techniques to locate, evaluate, and record pertinent anatomical, pathological, and functional data. They will operate ultrasound equipment to produce quality images, perform studies in required modalities, and provide training and guidance to Ultrasound Technology students. Job Responsibilities Demonstrate knowledge of the hospital and radiology information systems as they relate to radiology. Select appropriate patient information from the HIS/RIS system in accordance with HIPPA regulations. Access patient information; schedule exams, appointment times, type of exam, and patient reports. Follow departmental HIS/RIS system procedures and protocols to ensure orders are verified and processed correctly. Effectively assess patient information and status, and follow appropriate procedures accordingly. Use standard procedures to identify the correct patient. Review patient requisitions and understand the type of exam required; confer with medical staff for clarification when necessary. Direct and monitor student clinical training. Observe students during training, guide them to perform proper ultrasound procedures, convey information to increase their level of understanding, evaluate their progress, and monitor the work performed by students under supervision. Demonstrate skill in equipment set‑up, utilization, and proper maintenance procedures. Perform visual and manual quality control checks of radiographic equipment. Use imaging and peripheral equipment safely and productively in accordance with prescribed hospital, departmental, and manufacturer procedures. Observe and report any malfunctioning of equipment and notify appropriate persons for missing or damaged equipment. Independently implement patient procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Explain the procedure and equipment to the patient clearly. Resolve problems that arise during patient examinations using technical knowledge and innovation. Alter examinations to maximize information in response to patient condition. Confer with other technologists about previous approaches utilized. Follow accepted radiologic procedures and use medical information to determine the type of protocol required for the radiographic examination. Consult policy and procedure manuals or other reference materials as necessary to ensure actions conform to established protocols. Follow special instructions indicated on radiographic requisitions. Recognize the need for and follow isolation precautions. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Certificate from an approved ultrasound/vascular technology education program. Registered ARDMS. Five years of ultrasound experience. Preferred Qualifications Registered as an American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. Registered Vascular Technologist.
