Gilead Sciences seeks an AI Data Science Lead to drive machine learning innovation across research organizations, developing AI-enabled solutions for target discovery, biomarker development, and clinical research. The role involves designing end-to-end AI/ML use cases, translating scientific workflows into technical specifications, and managing a portfolio of research AI initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver end-to-end AI/ML solutions for pathological image processing, target identification, and biomarker discovery
- Develop prompt engineering strategies and conduct experimentation to optimize AI model performance
- Translate scientific workflows into AI-ready problem definitions and technical specifications
- Validate AI solutions against scientific rigor and reproducibility standards
- Mentor junior data scientists and manage portfolio-level tracking with executive dashboards
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Data Science, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or related field
- 6–10 years of experience applying AI/ML to life sciences research
- Expertise with prompt engineering, large language models, and AI experimentation
- Experience working with scientific datasets such as omics, imaging, or non-clinical data
- Strong systems thinking, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills
- Familiarity with research domains including discovery or translational sciences
Compensation: $146,200–$189,200 base
