26-27 School Year Full-Time Administrative Position with NISEC at Highland

Qualifications, Education and Licensure:The District Director for Special Education Services must be able to perform the attached essential job functions and satisfactorily demonstrate the competencies for Administrative Staff.The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Requirements for District Director Candidates: Minimum of Master's Degree in Education with a minor in two or more areas of Special Education. Hold and maintain current licensure in two or more disability areas of special education in the State of Indiana. Possess a good working knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations and can develop appropriate procedures for certified staff to follow. Completed or working towards licensure as a Director of Special Education in Indiana Minimum of five years experience in providing Special Education services Preferred experiences for District Director Candidates: Administrative experience as it relates to Special Education, Demonstrated leadership and management responsibilities, Experience in delivering in-services to professional staff and parents, Strong organizational skills and ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people, Knowledge and experience in supervision and evaluation of staff, Knowledge and experience dealing with computers used for instruction and management, Effective communication skills in writing, speaking and listening, and Commitment to team concept and strong work ethic. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The District Director is responsible for all special education and related services provided in the local districts.Specifically, the District Director is responsible for:

1. STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recruiting, interviewing and recommending certified and classified staff for employment. Conducting certified staff evaluations, professional growth plans, and making recommendations for re-employment and/or dismissal to the NISEC Director. Providing supervision in classrooms, itinerant, related service and diagnostic staff for all special education programs in the districts. Providing facilitation for curriculum modifications and material selections. Providing information to school personnel and parents on special education law, techniques, and current practices. Reviewing and monitoring special education files, and procedures and student IEP's to guarantee compliance with the state and federal guidelines and requirements. Coordinating and conducting meetings and inservices for special education staff. Meeting routinely with district and itinerant staff and annually reviewing caseloads and assignments. 2. CASE CONFERENCES AND STUDENT PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES Chairing all Manifestation Determination Case Conferences when expulsion is considered. Chair case conferences as the public agency designee, as appropriate. Chairing and coordinating all State School Case Conferences for students within the districts serviced. Chairing all nonpublic and home school conferences and assuring the services are developed and implemented. Chairing all Alternative/Residential Case Conferences, assuring the development and submission of the application, supervising the contracts billing, monitoring the services and assuring the renewal application is submitted on time. Informing the NISEC Director and Superintendent of all staff needs or changes.

3. ADMINISTRATIVE AND OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Follows the NISEC Administrative Calendar and follows the daily schedule, yet maintains flexibility as determined by the Cooperative. Participates in the development of long and short-range Cooperative objectives. As requested by the NISEC Director, chairs nonpublic school conferences assuring the services are identified on an IEP and Service Plan. Communicates routinely as a member of the NISEC Administrative team. As requested by the NISEC Director, provides informational presentations to the Superintendent's Advisory Council and Board of Managers. Maintains a high standard of professional ethics, honesty and integrity during the performance of all responsibilities. Assumes responsibility for personal professional growth and development by keeping current with the literature, new research findings and improved techniques and attending appropriate professional meetings. Supports the philosophy, policy and procedures of the Cooperative. Attends appropriate administrative meetings.
