Planned Giving Officer

Overview The Planned Giving Officer works with donors, development staff, CPAs, financial advisors, and legal professionals to facilitate estate gifts that align with donor values and organizational goals. Responsibilities Develop and implement a comprehensive planned giving strategy for their region. Identify, cultivate, and steward donors interested in legacy and estate gifts. Collaborate with legal and financial advisors to structure bequests, charitable trusts, annuities, and other planned giving vehicles. Deliver presentations and personalized proposals to prospective donors. Maintain accurate records of donor interactions and gift documentation, with discretion. Coordinate stewardship and recognition activities. Create marketing materials and campaigns to promote planned giving opportunities. Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards. Partner with local USO Operations Center leadership and fellow development staff to support local fundraising events and activations. Prepare and present oral and written reports. Other duties as assigned. Job Specifications Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Non-Profit Management, Business or related field. Master’s degree preferred. 3+ years’ work experience in planned giving, or fundraising. Relevant experience in a non-profit, military, multicultural and/or global organization preferred. Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building and presentation skills. Ability to deliver compelling call-to-action cases to internal and external stakeholders at a variety of levels. Knowledge of estate planning, tax laws, charitable giving instruments, and BBB Wise Giving Alliance Standards for Charity Accountability. Ability to achieve desired results while working collaboratively in a matrix team environment. Ability to interact effectively with USO Leadership, the public and military audiences at a variety of levels. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment related to controversial and/or culturally sensitive subjects. Ability to handle confidential information with tact and poise. Demonstrated initiative and adaptability to changing organizational needs. Ability to manage a high volume of assignments with varying complexity and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with integrity and professionalism. Proficiency with computers and software, including Microsoft Office Suite and Raiser’s Edge. Ability to obtain and maintain proper credentials to access USO Center locations and facilities including security, credit and/or background screening, SOFA status, and valid driver’s license. Must be a strong advocate of the USO’s mission. Details This position is located in Arlington, VA. Preference will be given to local candidates within commuting distance to the location.
