Education Research and Evaluation Consultant

Under the direction of the Director of Research, Evaluation, and Assessment, the Education Research and Evaluation Consultant (EREC) leads and supports work related to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of systems that monitor and enhance the quality of educator preparation. The Consultant plays a key role in ensuring that Commission-adopted assessments for Education Specialist candidates and accountability tools are valid, equitable, and meaningful, and that they contribute to a high-quality preparation experience for all candidates, including those preparing to serve students with disabilities. This position focuses on improving outcomes and maximizing the return on investment for aspiring and current educators by using data, research, and stakeholder input to guide program design, policy, and system-wide improvement efforts across California's educator preparation landscape. The Consultant performs work in support of educator preparation program quality and effectiveness and works independently and collaboratively to develop and implement assessment, accountability, and improvement activities aligned with Commission priorities.

The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing is an agency in the Executive Branch of California State Government. It was created in 1970 by the Ryan Act and is the oldest of the autonomous state standards boards in the nation. The major purpose of the agency is to serve as a state standards board for educator preparation for the public schools of California, the licensing and credentialing of professional educators in the State, the enforcement of professional practices of educators, and the discipline of credential holders in the State of California. Effective July 1, 2025, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the temporary Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each employee receive a temporary reduction in pay in exchange for PLP 2025 leave credits. The temporary salary reduction percentage and the number of PLP 2025 leave credits are based on the position's associated bargaining unit. The salary range(s) included in this job advertisement do not include the temporary salary reduction.

The Commission on Teacher Credentialing headquarters office is located in Sacramento; however, an alternate work location outside of Sacramento will be considered.
