Assistant Principal

Assistant Principal Reports To: Principal FLSA Status: Exempt Purpose of Position The Assistant Principal serves as an instructional leader and administrative support to the Principal in promoting student achievement, maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment, and ensuring the effective operation of the school. The Assistant Principal collaborates with staff, students, families, and community stakeholders to support the district's mission, vision, and strategic goals. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Leadership Assist the Principal in implementing the school's instructional program and continuous improvement initiatives. Support curriculum implementation and alignment with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study requirements. Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to teachers. Assist in evaluating certified and classified staff in accordance with district and state policies. Facilitate professional development activities and instructional coaching efforts. Analyze student achievement data and collaborate with staff to improve academic outcomes. School Operations and Management Assist in the daily operation and administration of the school. Develop and maintain master schedules, duty schedules, and testing schedules as assigned. Coordinate school programs, events, and extracurricular activities. Assist with budget monitoring and resource allocation. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and procedures. Student Services and Discipline Promote a positive school climate that supports student learning and well‑being. Administer student discipline in accordance with district policies and the North Carolina Student Code of Conduct. Conduct investigations related to student behavior and safety concerns. Collaborate with counselors, social workers, and support personnel to address student needs. Support attendance initiatives and intervention strategies. Staff Supervision and Support Assist in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding school personnel. Foster a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement. Provide guidance and support to teachers and staff regarding instructional practices and school procedures. Participate in personnel decisions and recommendations as assigned by the Principal. Family and Community Engagement Build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and community partners. Communicate effectively regarding school programs, student progress, and school expectations. Participate in parent meetings, community events, and stakeholder engagement activities. Support initiatives that strengthen family involvement in student success. Safety and Compliance Assist in developing and implementing school safety plans and emergency procedures. Coordinate safety drills and emergency preparedness activities. Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal laws regarding student and staff safety. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and student records. Other Duties Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or district administration. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of educational leadership principles, curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. Knowledge of North Carolina educational laws, policies, and accountability requirements. Strong leadership, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders. Ability to analyze data and use results to drive school improvement efforts. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Educational Leadership, School Administration, or a related field. Valid North Carolina Principal License or eligibility for licensure. Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience. Demonstrated leadership experience in an educational setting is preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to move throughout the school campus and attend school‑related activities. Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and electronically. Ability to perform duties requiring standing, walking, and occasional lifting consistent with school operations. Terms of Employment Twelve‑month employment term. Salary and benefits established by the local Board of Education and applicable state regulations.
