Dean, UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is one of six health science schools at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, teaching approximately 600 PharmD students and 145 graduate students. It is recognized as a leader in pharmacy education, research, and practice. Position Summary The Dean serves as the School’s Chief Executive and Academic Officer, providing strategic, academic, and administrative leadership. Responsibilities include stewardship of resources, curriculum and research programs, faculty appointments, risk management, advancement, and compliance with university and regulatory policies. The appointment is reviewed every five years. The Dean Serves as chief executive and academic administrative officer of the School of Pharmacy, planning and stewarding fiscal and material resources. Administers the School’s educational, research, and public service programs and collaborates with faculty and administrators on strategic decisions. Recommends faculty appointments, promotions, and tenure to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost. Acts as the School’s representative on University policy bodies and external constituencies. Leads advancement and development activities, serving on the Board of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy Foundation. Ensures compliance with university policies, affirmative action, regulatory standards of the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy, and accrediting bodies. Manages the School’s satellite campus in Asheville, NC. Leads strategic planning and policy development activities. Minimum Education And Experience Requirements An earned terminal degree, a record of exceptional leadership, and evidence of scholarly, professional, or creative achievement are required. Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience Extensive experience in pharmacy professional and graduate program administration and executive leadership; progressive academic leadership experience; a strong track record of independently funded scholarship; and a demonstrated record of fostering excellence in research, teaching, and service. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience Former experience in a pharmacy school administrative role; ability to think strategically and build effective institutional partnerships; strong administrative experience and professional integrity; strong team‑building skills; and the ability to articulate the School’s vision and mission to stakeholders.
