MUFG, one of the world’s top five banks with over 360 years of heritage and a global presence spanning more than 50 markets, is seeking a Vice President for FCOE Sanctions Non-London Branch Engagement and Governance. This pivotal role sits within the Financial Crimes Office for EMEA (FCOE) in London, forming part of the Global Financial Crimes Division. You will be instrumental in safeguarding MUFG’s reputation and ensuring compliance across EMEA branches outside London, acting as a senior point of coordination and challenge. The organisation offers stability, a supportive network, and the opportunity to work alongside knowledgeable professionals committed to becoming the world’s most trusted financial group. With flexible working opportunities, generous pension contributions, and ongoing training, MUFG provides an environment where your expertise in sanctions governance will drive meaningful impact while fostering personal growth.
- Join a globally respected financial institution with a rich history and commitment to trust, offering you the chance to shape governance standards across EMEA branches.
- Enjoy flexible working arrangements, generous pension contributions, and access to continuous professional development within a supportive team environment.
- Play a key role in protecting client assets and mitigating financial crime risk by leading structured engagement, service relationship management, and third-party oversight across multiple jurisdictions.
As Vice President for FCOE Sanctions Non-London Branch Engagement and Governance at MUFG, you will play a central role in shaping how sanctions services are delivered across EMEA branches outside London. Your day-to-day activities will involve building trusted relationships with branch stakeholders, ensuring that all aspects of sanctions governance are clearly defined and monitored. You will coordinate service review meetings with various teams such as Legal, Operations and Risk to oversee inter-affiliate agreements. By analysing trends in performance data and identifying emerging risks or control weaknesses, you will present concise recommendations to senior stakeholders. Your ability to communicate complex regulatory requirements in practical terms will help ensure local processes align with global standards. You will also be responsible for planning exit strategies for sanctions services during crises—ensuring business continuity—and supporting third-party risk management through diligent oversight. Success in this role requires you to foster collaboration across teams while driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance transparency, efficiency and resilience throughout the region.
- Lead structured engagement with non-London EMEA branches on sanctions service delivery, governance, risk and control matters, ensuring clear communication and collaborative problem-solving.
- Act as the principal FCOE Sanctions contact for relevant branch stakeholders, coordinating queries, concerns and decisions promptly to maintain effective relationships.
- Establish robust governance routines including agendas, papers, actions, decision records and escalation routes that promote consistency while recognising jurisdictional requirements.
- Communicate regional and global sanctions requirements in practical terms to ensure local processes are understood and implemented appropriately.
- Identify common themes, control weaknesses and service challenges across locations; escalate material matters with clear recommendations for corrective action.
- Oversee sanctions-related service relationship management by coordinating review meetings, monitoring actions and transparently reporting performance, risks and dependencies.
- Coordinate periodic review and maintenance of inter-affiliate agreements in partnership with Legal, Operations, Risk and other control functions to ensure responsibilities are documented.
- Plan, coordinate and maintain sanctions service exit plans required for crisis situations to support uninterrupted provision of services.
- Monitor adherence to agreed services including KPIs and KRIs; drive remediation or escalation where performance falls outside approved tolerances.
- Support third-party due diligence, risk assessments, periodic reviews and contingency planning while maintaining evidence for internal review or regulatory scrutiny.
Your proven experience as Vice President for FCOE Sanctions Non-London Branch Engagement and Governance will demonstrate deep expertise in sanctions compliance within regulated financial institutions. You bring an empathetic approach to stakeholder engagement—building dependable relationships across diverse teams such as Legal, Operations and Risk. Your attention to detail ensures accurate reporting of management information while your analytical mindset helps identify root causes behind emerging risks. You have successfully managed multiple priorities under tight deadlines by exercising sound judgement when converting regulatory expectations into practical actions. Your excellent communication skills allow you to translate complex requirements into clear guidance for branch stakeholders. You thrive in collaborative environments where constructive challenge leads to positive outcomes. Experience supporting audits or process improvement initiatives further enhances your suitability for this role. Above all, your commitment to continuous improvement drives innovation that strengthens oversight capabilities throughout the EMEA region.
- Relevant experience in sanctions compliance, financial crime prevention or risk management within a regulated financial institution is essential for this role.
- A strong understanding of sanctions risks, controls and governance frameworks applicable to banking environments is required.
- Experience engaging with regional branches or legal entities within complex matrix organisations is highly valued.
- Proven track record in service relationship management including inter-affiliate arrangements or third-party risk management processes is necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to design or operate governance forums involving management information reporting (KPIs/KRIs), issue tracking and escalation procedures is important.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills enabling you to present complex matters clearly to senior audiences are crucial.
- Strong analytical skills combined with disciplined follow-through on organisational tasks ensure accuracy in reporting and documentation.
- Ability to constructively challenge outcomes while maintaining effective relationships during difficult discussions reflects your interpersonal strengths.
- Experience supporting regulatory examinations or internal audits adds value but is not mandatory.
- Knowledge of EU outsourcing or operational resilience expectations as they apply to intra-group arrangements is desirable.
