Mobile Diesel Mechanic II

Mobile Diesel Technician Level II Shift: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

DUTIES

Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment. Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment—including electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials. Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges. Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions. Road test vehicles to verify proper operation. Use sound judgment to identify problems and evaluate alternatives. Manage parts inventory and perform periodic reconciliation. Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑/post‑trip inspections. Engage effectively with clients to assess their needs and provide assistance. Manage concurrent tasks and prioritize work activities and time allocations. Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks. Document work on Repair Orders (RO) using an iOS device and the TRAIT application. Complete DOT forms and all documentation promptly and accurately. Work independently, managing your own daily schedule. Maintain high productivity within or close to standard repair times. Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed. Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates and retrieve purchase order numbers or discuss RO findings. Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations. Maintain the service truck, conducting safety checks and daily pre/post‑trip inspections.

REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma/GED with at least 3 years of related experience (alternative combinations such as a higher degree or 5 years of experience may also be acceptable). Possess a set of hand tools necessary for the duties described. Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months. Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or submit a valid DOT medical card with at least 4 months remaining). Be at least 21 years old and hold a valid state driver’s license; maintain a Driver Qualification File. Possess a current and valid DOT medical card with more than 4 months remaining, or complete a DOT physical if less than 4 months remain. Required Certifications

Compensation Hourly rate: $26.73 – $40.10, depending on location and qualifications. Additional compensation may include commission and incentive programs.
