Associate Fiber TechnicianJob Title: Associate Fiber Technician (Data Center Environment) Location: New Albany, OH Work Model: Onsite POSITION OVERVIEWUNICON International is seeking an Associate Fiber Technician to support a large-scale, mission-critical data center connectivity project. This opportunity is ideal for an early-career technician with hands-on exposure to fiber optics, structured cabling, telecommunications, low-voltage systems, or data center infrastructure who is interested in continuing to develop their fiber testing and troubleshooting skills.The Associate Fiber Technician will work alongside experienced technicians performing fiber installation, connectivity verification, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation while adhering to strict safety and quality standards.WHAT YOU WILL BE DOINGInstall, pull, route, dress, organize, and label fiber-optic and copper cablingAssist with fiber termination and splicing activitiesPerform basic fiber testing and connectivity verificationAssist with circuit auditing and validationClean and inspect fiber connectorsUtilize or develop proficiency with OTDR, optical power meters, VFLs, fiber scopes, and related equipmentTrace cables and verify connections against port maps and project documentationIdentify and escalate failed tests and connectivity issuesSupport rack, patch-panel, pathway, and cable-management activitiesRead and follow drawings, cable schedules, port maps, and work instructionsDocument completed work and testing results accuratelyFollow all safety, PPE, ESD, quality, and site requirementsWHAT'S NEEDED2–2.5 years of relevant experience2 years working directly in a Data Center environmentHands-on exposure to fiber optics, telecommunications, structured cabling, low voltage, electrical, or data center infrastructureBasic understanding of fiber and copper cablingStrong mechanical and technical aptitudeAbility to follow technical documentation and detailed instructionsStrong attention to safety and qualityWillingness to learn fiber testing and troubleshooting techniquesSteel-toed safety boots are required on the first day of employment and must be worn in accordance with site safety requirements.What You'll Learn (Growth Path)Fiber optic fundamentals (installation, termination, testing)Use of testing tools such as light meters and OTDR (on-the-job training)Data center infrastructure standards and best practicesAdvanced troubleshooting and cable management techniquesOSHA 10, BICSI, ETA, FOA, or related certifications are a plus.
