Electronics Technician - Automated People Mover (APM), Automated Electric Train System

Some of what you'll be doing: As an Electronics Technician, you will operate and perform maintenance on the SEA Airport Automated People Mover (APM) automated electric train system, diagnostics of automated vehicle controls, central systems electronics, audio/dynamic-graphics messaging equipment, variable speed drives, RF system communication equipment and other electronic and mechanical components of the APM train system. You will perform preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance and system recovery of the APM system. This includes the analysis, diagnosis, and repair of all electronic equipment associated with the APM controls system, and all associated sub-systems. You will be required to respond to train failures with a sense of urgency during passenger service and during regular maintenance activities. You will provide real time failure analysis to plan and implement recovery operations while continuing safe and efficient passenger movement and minimizing system down time. You will work with multiple crafts that support train shop maintenance and operations. You will interact with airline and airport representatives, the traveling public and others to effectively maintain a safe and controlled environment. You will stand in as the lead technician as needed and make informed decisions while managing the maintenance and operations for the APM train system. You will make informed decisions with little to no supervisor assistance. Who you are: Experienced – You have five (5) years’ experience working with and maintaining system-based electronic controls and components. Desired – We hope you have an Associate’s degree from a recognized electronic technical school, or a two-year certificate from a recognized trade school showing completion of curriculum in support of an apprenticeship in an appropriate craft (electronics, instrument technician, industrial electrical/electronics, etc.), or equivalent military training and experience. Knowledgeable – You possess the skills to use oscilloscopes, VOMs, spectrum analyzers, RS485/422 and RS232 communication protocols, Windows-based networking using TCPIP, proper soldering practices and have very strong hand-tool mechanical skills. You understand Electrical, Electronic, Relay Logic Theories and are able to demonstrate that understanding in practical exercises. Communication – You have excellent verbal, interpersonal, and active listening skills while interacting with airport personnel and the traveling public. You possess the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Adaptability – You can work effectively in a high stress environment with many deadlines, unresolved situations, frequent changing priorities, delays, and unexpected events while staying calm under pressure. Critical Thinking – You have the ability to utilize critical thinking and judgment to define, analyze, and resolve problems. Teamwork – You are a strong team-oriented person who can work independently or with other team members to complete tasks with minimal supervision. Problem Solving – You can independently and rapidly assess and restore equipment in stressful situations, taking safe and appropriate action with tools and materials on hand. What else you need to know: Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites. Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will vary (40 hours per week, generally a 4-10s schedule). You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including day, swing, graveyard, weekends, and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies. Work Environment – You will work indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions. You may be exposed to areas of high noise, various hazardous materials, work at heights, inside dusty and/or dirty environments, and/or in confined spaces. Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State. Overtime Eligible – You are eligible for overtime pay in this role. Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements. Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance. In this role, you will be required to access Port of Seattle Police Department equipment, office locations, systems and/or vehicles. In compliance with Federal and State laws as the successful candidate, you will be required to pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) criminal history background check. Union Representation – This position is represented by International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W) union, Local 46. Probationary Period – Probationary employees must work an equivalent to eight (8) months of continuous full-time work. The probationary employee will be recognized as havingattainedSeniority status upon the successful completion of their probationary period. The probationary period may be extended by management, in consultation with the Union, based on the documented performance review completed by the supervisor, not to exceed a total of twelve (12) months worked. Pay – Probationary rate $64.67. Once probation is completed, rate of pay will be $71.86.
