The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Staff Accountant to own the full accounting cycle for x2n. This is not a support role—you will be the accounting function. You’ll work directly with our part-time Controller, who provides oversight, month-end review, and technical guidance, but the day-to-day ownership of the books is yours.

The role averages 30–35 hours per week, and we offer significant flexibility in how and when those hours are structured. We require in-person work, but we understand that the right candidate may have commitments that make a rigid 9-to-5 schedule unappealing. We would rather build a schedule that works than lose a great person to an unnecessary constraint.

We are intentionally hiring someone who could do more than this role demands on paper. We want a person who has seen enough to understand what good accounting looks like, who takes ownership seriously, and who finds satisfaction in keeping a clean set of books without needing to be told why it matters. What You’ll Own

Accounts Receivable

• Process and apply customer payments across 300–350 invoices per month, primarily through NetSuite’s automated recurring billing workflows
• Manage collections: monitor the aging report, follow up on past-due balances, and escalate as needed
• Handle billing exceptions, credit memos, and adjustments with accuracy and good judgment

Accounts Payable

• Process vendor bills and manage payment runs across 80+ active vendors, including ACH batches and credit card reconciliation
• Maintain vendor records and payment terms; flag discrepancies before they become problems

Banking & Reconciliation

• Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and petty cash across multiple locations each month
• Identify and resolve discrepancies independently

Month-end Close

• Prepare and post standard journal entries including accruals, prepaid amortization, and lease accounting entries under ASC 842
• Deliver clean, closed books to the Controller on schedule, every month

Payroll & HR Coordination

• Interface with our payroll provider (TriNet) to post payroll journal entries and reconcile payroll liabilities

Compliance & Reporting

• Manage sales tax reporting obligations across multiple states including Texas and New Mexico
• Properly code R&D expenditures for potential tax credit purposes—this matters and accuracy here has real financial consequences
• Run standard reports from NetSuite for the Controller’s review and for management visibility

What We’re Looking For

The following are genuine requirements, not aspirational checkboxes:

• NetSuite experience—this is the most important single filter. Our environment is deeply customized. Candidates who haven’t worked in NetSuite will have a steeper ramp and a higher risk of early struggle. Please be honest with yourself about this one.
• 3–7 years of full-cycle accounting experience—you’ve owned AR, AP, reconciliations, and close before, not just supported someone who did
• Comfort with ASC 842 lease accounting—you don’t need to be an expert, but you need to know what a right-of-use asset is and how to maintain an amortization schedule
• Strong organizational discipline—at 300+ invoices per month, attention to detail isn’t optional
• Genuine interest in the work environment—we’re a satellite and 5G company. We talk about space, ground stations, and network infrastructure. The right candidate will find that interesting, not irrelevant.

We’ll also give real credit for:

• NetSuite certification or demonstrated NetSuite expertise
• Experience in a services business with recurring billing
• Multi-state sales and use tax experience
• Familiarity with R&D expense classification for tax credit purposes
• Experience working as a solo accounting function or in a small team where you had to figure things out independently

A note on culture fit

We don’t have a lot of turnover, and we’d like to keep it that way. We think the best way to do that is to be straightforward about what this role is before you apply.

This is a small company. There is no accounting department to fall back on—when something needs to get done, you’re the one who gets it done. Our Controller is available and engaged, but not present every day. You’ll need to be comfortable with that kind of independence.

We work in a technical industry and that shapes how people here think. You don’t need to know how a satellite modem works, but a genuine curiosity about technology and infrastructure will make you a better fit and a more engaged member of the team.
