PREVENTION ANALYST-DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Prevention Analyst at an Air Force/Space Force installation. Under the direction of the Integrated Prevention Chief, the Prevention Analyst leads collection, analysis, interpretation, and visual implementation of data for the installation Integrated Resilience Office.

Duties

Help

  1. Organizes all aspects of integrated prevention program planning, assessment, evaluation, and continuous monitoring of prevention activities for the installation.
  2. Leads integrated prevention data collection, analysis, and presentation through regular updates to the Community Action Board (CAB), Community Action Team (CAT), unit leadership, and relevant forums, as requested.
  3. Applies knowledge and understanding of research-based primary prevention strategies and programs to inform the installation prevention process.
  4. Accomplishes professional development and maintains proficiency through interaction with technical and professional societies, associations, academia, symposia, contractors, research and development organizations, and participation in formal training programs.

  • A Master's degree or higher in a behavioral, social science, or related discipline appropriate to this position is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience within primary prevention is highly desired
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
  • This position requires a high degree of discretion in relation to sensitive information of which the incumbent is aware
  • Position requires flexibility and adaptability to implement DAF's frequent program and policy modifications, which are often made quickly in response to evolving environments, mission sets and risk/protective factors

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions.

BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

OR

Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-02, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-11 or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience is experience in applying a comprehensive and professional knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies as well as behavioral, social science and/or public health practices, using knowledge of a wide range of delivery systems, and applying knowledge of quantitative techniques and methods used to develop, adapt, modify, and apply models to resolve problems.

NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.

Ideal Candidate

Has a comprehensive and professional knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies as well as behavioral, social science and/or public health practices principles and theories relating to prevention and resilience. Has a thorough knowledge of a wide range of delivery systems relating to violence prevention and the multiple uses of such systems. Has an in-depth knowledge of DAF culture, military family dynamics, related professional fields, and a thorough knowledge of the DAF community and the unique challenges that DAF families face; or equivalent knowledge. Has a knowledge of quantitative techniques and methods used to develop, adapt, modify, and apply models to resolve problems or define and clarify alternative solutions to inform prevention efforts; ability to formulate and conduct assessments and evaluations to implement and monitor primary prevention plans. Has the skill to provide professional advisory services, develop and utilize appropriate data collection techniques and design, build, and use models and simulation techniques for prevention. Has the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing as well as the ability to identify individual and community risk and protective factors in order to determine prevention and resilience activities to meet the needs of the base populace.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
  1. Comprehensive and professional knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies as well as behavioral, social science and/or public health practices principles and theories relating to the prevention of violence and promotion of helping-seeking and resilience.
  2. Thorough knowledge of a wide range of delivery systems relating to violence prevention and the multiple uses of such systems.
  3. In-depth knowledge of DAF culture, military family dynamics, related professional fields, and a thorough knowledge of the DAF community and the unique challenges that DAF families face; or equivalent knowledge.
  4. Knowledge of quantitative techniques and methods used to develop, adapt, modify, and apply models to resolve problems or define and clarify alternative solutions to inform prevention efforts; ability to formulate and conduct assessments and evaluations to implement and monitor primary prevention plans.
  5. Skill and ability to provide professional advisory services, develop and utilize appropriate data collection techniques and design, build, and use models and simulation techniques for prevention.
  6. Ability to identify individual and community risk and protective factors in order to determine needed primary prevention activities to meet the needs of the base populace.
  7. Ability to work well with others in a team approach and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE : Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE : Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

This is an acquisition demonstration project position NH-03 equivalent to a GS-12 to GS-13.
