Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant position is responsible for performing a wide variety of clerical and clinical duties. The position requires travel to each Peraza Dermatology Group office location to support the physician or physician assistant at that office during the scheduled shift. Clinical duties vary, and it is important to remain flexible and willing to help when needed. Patient care comes first and foremost. It is imperative that patients feel comfortable and at ease, as well as that they verify and follow through on the instructions of the physician or physician assistant. Given the nature of this work, it is necessary to adhere to strict confidentiality practices in accordance with HIPAA.

This job may also include travel to nearby clinics within a 35-mile radius from the main employment location, when called upon. Any location traveled to farther than 35 miles will be eligible for mileage reimbursement at the review of their supervising team. *This position supports a Doctor and senior-level Medical Assistant in the Claremont location on Thursdays and Fridays; the Lebanon location on Mondays; Derry or New London on Tuesdays; and New London on Wednesdays. It is important that this role can accommodate traveling to each location for each scheduled shift and remain flexible to travel to other locations as necessary.*

Essential Job (Role) Duties:

• Prepare patients for their examinations; retrieve patient history and obtain a reason for the visit, taking vital signs (on rare occasions).
• Scribe for the provider on the iPad; including the input of medication refills and orders for general lab tests directed by the provider.
• Assist the provider with all examinations and procedures.
• Clean exam rooms after each patient visit, as well as properly dispose of soiled materials per the Safety Program.
• Properly clean and sanitize medical supplies and equipment.
• Complete prior authorizations for prescriptions and/or procedures.
• Follow up with patients regarding test results, as well as inform them about different treatment options or plans.
• Comply with all MIPS requirements/documentation consistently and accurately.
• Organize and stock exam rooms with proper supplies, as well as notifying the appropriate person when medical supplies or retail products are low and need to be re-ordered.
• Check the Medical Assistant voicemail and take patient messages routinely throughout each day.
• Assess the general supply needs for each office on a daily basis to make sure that proper supplies and materials are either stocked or sent from the appropriate office.
• Other tasks as needed, such as washing, drying, and folding linens, filling syringes, autoclaving gauze, etc.

Skills:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients, providers, and coworkers - must be fluent in English.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR), medical documentation, and medical scribing.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, infection control practices, and HIPAA regulations.
• Ability to accurately collect and document patient information and follow provider instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate patient records and documentation.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
• Customer service oriented with a professional, friendly, and empathetic demeanor.
• Proficient in the use of computers, tablets (iPad), Microsoft Office applications, and other healthcare technologies.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities, office location (any of the 5 locations), and workflow demands is necessary.
• Must exercise constant attention to safety practices as defined by the Safety Program's Bloodborne/Airborne Pathogen requirements.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive patient information.

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.

Experience:

• Minimum of one year of experience in a medical office, physician practice, or healthcare setting preferred.
• Previous experience as a Medical Assistant, Clinical Assistant, or similar is preferred.
• Dermatology experience preferred but not required.
• Experience with EMR systems and electronic charting is strongly preferred.
• Reliable transportation between office locations is required.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to balance certain mental and emotional stressors from working in a medical/health care environment.
• Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds (office equipment, supplies, etc.)
• Requires long periods of standing/walking/sitting.
• Requires the ability to reach, stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch.
