Pharmacy Technician

Option: 7:00 A.M. to 5:30 PM Rotating M-F 4 10 hour day PRIMARY FUNCTIONS Under the general supervision of a pharmacist, the pharmacy technician performs pharmacy-related functions, in compliance with the department policies and procedures and within state and federal regulations of the practice of pharmacy. The pharmacy technician supports the pharmacist in the day-to-day activities related to providing outpatient pharmaceutical care. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Maintains a working knowledge of pharmacy terminology, pharmacology, and pharmacotherapy Performs careful and accurate work in any technical area, as assigned including rotation to telepharmacy, when appropriate based on minimum qualifications and experience Adheres to retail pharmacy regulations and state/federal standards and guidelines Appropriately triages department telephone calls, e-mail, and voice messages Provide friendly and compassionate customer service Use and understand verbal and written communication to interact with patients and team members Use active listening to provide patients with full attention and taking time to understand the requests and concerns of the patient and seeking consultation from a pharmacist, when appropriate Assists in receiving, un-packaging, sorting, and restocking of pharmaceuticals and supplies to their appropriate locations Promptly, safely, and accurately fills patient prescriptions Labels medication accurately and appropriately, in accordance with state and federal regulations Assists in the monitoring of outdated medication/supplies and coordinates destruction/return per department policy Maintains, orders, and stocks medication and pharmacy supplies in the retail pharmacy department Assists department in maintaining accurate record keeping in accordance with state and federal requirements, including controlled substances control/inventory Is knowledgeable and adheres to all safety practices while performing duties to minimize any risk of injury and/or exposure to bio-hazardous pharmaceuticals/materials Assists in the preparation, development, implementation and attainment of departmental projects, goals, and policies Attends in-services, on the job training, and continuing education programs to maintain competencies and certification Assists in training new employees/students Communicates effectively with other departments/members of the healthcare team MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS a. High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) preferred. b. Previous pharmacy experience is not required but is desirable d. Must possess a valid state Technician-Trainee or Pharmacy Technician registration with the State of Iowa within 30 days of hire. d. Must possess a Certification (CPhT) by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or other accredited entity within one year of hire date. e. Must possess and maintain general knowledge of medications and medical supplies. f. Must possess a basic understanding of pharmacy practices and procedures. g. Must have the ability to work with associated technologies relevant to the position. h. Must possess the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in written form, needs and solutions with all levels of the organization.
