Pharmacy Technician 2

The Pharmacy Technician 2 is accountable for assisting pharmacists in the retrieval, processing, preparation and distribution of medications and sterile products for patient administration.

These activities include but are not limited to:

• Unit dose medications and IV admixtures
• Par-enteral nutrition
• Floor stock pharmaceuticals
• Controlled substances
• And other defined systems

The Technician 2 functions in all aspects of drug distribution that do not require the professional judgement of a pharmacist. All assigned activities are performed under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Manager.

Essential Duties:

• Accurate preparation of patient medications including sterile products, chemotherapy, unit dose, cart-fills, TPN, narcotics
• Accurate and timely delivery of patient specific medications
• Timely delivery and retrieval of patient medications
• Inventories, replenishes, and maintains drug stock which includes automated dispensing cabinets
• Adherence to Dept. Policies
• Assist the Pharmacist with medication/patient care related issues

Education/Expertise:

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Certified IV trained technicians REQUIRED.
• Good communication skills are essential.

Experience & Knowledge:

• Prior experience, as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or community setting or graduation from an accredited pharmacy technician program is required. Understanding of metric system and basic maths concepts is required.

Special Skills & Equipment Knowledge:

• Personal computer, Pharmacy computer systems, TPN compounders, automated dispensing cabinets, calculators, facsimile machine.
• Pharmacy Tech needed for inpatient and outpatient services; Must have competency and recent experience in preparation of chemotherapy. Hospital Experience; Omnicell, Sterile Preparations.
