Position Summary:

Community and civic engagement organizer is responsible for building grassroots power through leadership development, community defense organizing, civic engagement, and member mobilization. This role focuses on organizing immigrant workers, youth, students, and families to strengthen local leadership, respond to attacks on immigrant communities, and build long-term community power rooted in collective action and solidarity. The organizer will help coordinate community defense campaigns, strengthen rapid response infrastructure, expand civic participation, and deepen member engagement across the region.

Essential Duties:

Community Defense Organizing

• Coordinate and strengthen regional community defense efforts to protect immigrant families and respond to enforcement activity.
• Organize and facilitate Know Your Rights trainings for workers, students, families, and community

members.

• Recruit, train, and support Rapid Response Verifiers and Operators.
• Help build sustainable rapid response systems rooted in trust, accountability, and grassroots

participation.

• Coordinate court accompaniment efforts to support community members attending immigration

proceedings.

• Mobilize volunteers and members during emergencies, raids, detentions, and crisis response efforts.
• Support public education and organizing campaigns defending immigrant communities against

detention, deportation, family separation, and anti-immigrant attacks.

Base Building & Leadership Development

• Build and expand membership through outreach, relationship building, and one-on-one conversations.
• Identify and develop grassroots leaders among immigrant workers, students, parents, and directly

impacted community members.

• Support members in taking leadership roles within campaigns, trainings, committees, and public actions.
• Facilitate leadership development trainings focused on organizing skills, political education, civic

participation, and movement building.

• Promote democratic participation and collective decision-making within the organization.

Civic Engagement & Movement Building

• Support voter engagement, civic participation, and community education efforts connected to immigrant rights and worker justice campaigns.
• Engage members in statewide campaigns, mobilizations, legislative advocacy, and direct actions.
• Help connect immediate community defense work to long-term movement building and systemic change.
• Build relationships with coalitions, faith groups, unions, schools, and community allies to strengthen

collective power.

Regional Coordination & Operations

• Participate in statewide organizing meetings, trainings, and campaign planning.
• Coordinate regional meetings, trainings, member gatherings, and organizing events.
• Track outreach, leadership development, volunteer participation, and organizing goals.
• Maintain strong communication with members, volunteers, and community leaders.
• Assist with administrative and operational tasks connected to organizing work as needed.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to immigrant rights, social justice, and community organizing with passion for building power and creating positive change within the communities we serve.

Education & Experience

• 1-2 years of relationship-based organizing, leadership development, and team building.
• Strong knowledge of VAN is preferred.
• Experience with digital organizing a plus
• Experience in nonprofit, advocacy, or mission-driven organizations preferred.

Skills & Competencies

• Fluency in both English and Spanish
• Experience in community organizing, immigrant rights, advocacy, case management, crisis response, volunteer coordination, or related fields preferred.
• Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and public presentation skills.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in fast-paced environments.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a team.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, databases, and other standard office technology.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive information.
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel frequently throughout Wisconsin.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.
