Operations & Maintenance Technician IV – Mechanical (Conveyance & Distribution) Locations: US-CA-Granada Hills US-CA-Los Angeles US-CA-Yorba Linda US-CA-Winchester US-CA-Riverside US-CA-La Verne A role focused on installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical equipment across water utility facilities such as pumps, turbines, generators, motors, compressors, valves, hydraulic systems, pipelines, feeders, canals, pressure‑control structures, and reservoirs. The technician supports operations in conveyance and distribution, treatment plants, and pumping plants by improving equipment performance and upgrading systems to meet service demands. Key Responsibilities Inspect, maintain, and improve large infrastructure and equipment including pumps, turbines, generators, motors, compressors, valves, turnouts, and hydraulic systems. Change flow operations and adjust settings in pressure‑control and pressure‑relief structures. Perform dewatering, disinfecting, and refilling operations during shutdown and outage periods. Conduct maintenance welding, fabrication, and machining as required. Operate heavy equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, overhead hoists, and mobile cranes while following safe rigging procedures. Adhere to proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and respiratory protection. Use computer programs for time entry, maintenance work order tracking, work planning, estimating, and professional communications. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of 6 years in a mechanical maintenance position at a water agency or in a conveyance and distribution facility such as a pump plant, treatment plant, or hydroelectric facility. OR High school diploma or equivalent with attainment of journey‑level mechanical trade skills through a recognized training program. Demonstrated journey‑level experience in general and advanced techniques specific to the operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems at a water agency or in a conveyance and distribution facility. Certifications, Licenses & Registrations Valid California Class C driver’s license (required at time of application). Additional certifications that may be required or may be maintained: Valid driver’s license equivalent to a California Class B. Crane certifications. Welding certification. Chemical responder certification. Forklift certification. Manlift certification. MWD high voltage switching certification. Water distribution certification. Hours of Service & Emergency Expectations Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM PST. Potential off‑shift hours, stand‑by service, or extended periods away from the normal reporting location to address operational needs or emergencies. Benefits Competitive compensation.
