Diesel Technician

Job TitleOperates, maintains, and repairs diesel powered generators, pumps, and equipment. Keeps records of equipment, diesel fuel supply status, licenses, inspections, and certification of equipment. Keeps spare parts inventory for critical equipment for normal operation and storm preparation. The omission of a function does not preclude management from assigning essential duties not listed herein if such duties relate to the position.Operates and tests diesel powered generators, pumps, and equipmentDiagnoses malfunctions; disassembles engines; examines parts for defects and wearReconditions and/or replaces parts such as pistons, bearings, gears, valves and bushings, using hand or power tools and precision-measuring and testing instruments,Performs complete overhaul of diesel engines when requiredMaintains records of equipment status and certificationsEnsures emergency preparedness of equipmentProcures parts and services as neededAssists in preparing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's)Works around high voltage, rotating equipment and various hazardous chemicals.Ensures compliance with safety regulations and standard operating proceduresKnowledge of Federal, State and County Underground Storage Tank (UST) regulations.Performs related work as requiredJob Requirements, Preferences & Work EnvironmentMinimum Job Requirements:High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency, preferably supplemented with technical training by a diesel manufacturer or vocational/trade school.Three or more years of experience operating and maintaining diesel powered generators.To claim Veterans' Preference, candidates must attach to the application a copy of military separation papers (DD214) and service-connected disability documentation (if applicable) to meet eligibility requirements as stipulated by Florida Statues.
