Direct Support Professional

Starting Pay: $20 - $21/Hour. Position Summary Attends to the personal care of adults with developmental disabilities living in a licensed residential home. Assists and participates in the planning, coordination and delivery of daily living activities including outings to facilitate development of living skills for the residents and help them achieve a higher level of independence. Responsibilities Provides personal care for residents which may include assistance with eating, personal hygiene, showering, restroom assistance, and preparing for bedtime. Assists and/or prepares meals in compliance with dietary restrictions; assists individuals to eat, including those who may require assistance with G‑tube feeding. Assists in the administration and monitoring of medications. Assists in the care and cleaning of the residential home, including housekeeping and laundering of residents’ clothing. Conducts daily activities to assist in the development of the residents’ living skills, consistent with their Individual Program Plan (IPP) and Individual Support Plan (ISP) goals. Provides continuous active treatment and engagement. Completes all required reports and documentation on a daily basis. Attends all necessary staff meetings and completes all required mandatory trainings. Might use company‑provided vehicle to transport individuals to health care appointments and other various locations. Participates in recreational activities in a variety of settings. Performs other duties as assigned. Education and Certifications High School Diploma, GED, or national equivalent. DSP‑I and DSP‑II Certification required or must be attained within the first year of hire. Valid CPR, CPI and First Aid Certifications. Experience 1 to 2 years’ experience, or equivalent combination of training, education and experience to perform the job successfully. 1-year minimum experience in a licensed residential setting working with medically fragile adults with developmental disabilities and/or behavioral issues. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Familiarity with charting, medication administration, and positive behavior support. Understanding of behavioral issues, including aggressive, non‑verbal and self‑injury behaviors. Understanding Individual Program Plans and Individual Service Plans. Knowledge of Regional Center, Department of Developmental Services, Title 17 and 22. Ability to communicate well orally and in writing; interpret and carry out written and/or oral instructions. Ability to work in indoor and outdoor settings, arrange and participate in outdoor activities with residents of the residential home. Consistent good judgment and decision‑making skills; exercise discretion and confidentiality. Pass post‑offer medical examination and tuberculosis test. Maintain criminal record/fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice and FBI per Easter Seals Southern California/program requirements. Maintain valid California driver’s license and compliance with Transportation Safety Standards, including proper auto insurance and vehicle registration if applicable. Physical Requirements Carrying/Lifting: Occasional / 0‑50 lbs. Standing: Occasional / Up to 3 hours per day. Sitting: Occasional / Up to 4 hours per day. Walking: Occasional / Up to 3 hours per day. Repetitive Motion/Activity: Keyboard activity, telephone use, writing. Visual Acuity: Ability to view computer monitor and read newsprint. Travel: Requires up to 20% local travel. Environmental Exposure: Regular exposure to unpleasant or hazardous working conditions (noise, heat, dust, bodily fluids, etc.) more than 50% of work time. #J-18808-Ljbffr
