Summary The Radiology Service Chief provides executive leadership and oversight for all aspects of Radiology Service - including clinical operations, education, research, and administrative functions. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referenced and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: 1) those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education; 2) those approved by the American Osteopathic Association; 3) other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States) deemed by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee to provide appropriate professional training. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs who otherwise meet the basic requirements are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs) PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged They are to have a scope of practice that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs Proficiency in spoken and written English Preferred Experience: 2‑3 years of progressive management and leadership experience Board Certified in Radiology Reference: For more information on this qualification standard - please visit Physical Requirements: Per VA Directive and Handbook 5019 a physical examination will be conducted based on the physical requirements of the position and a physical examination prior to placement is required Long periods of standing or walking in the operating room setting and outpatient clinic will be encountered The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem‑solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading and logical thinking The environment’s pace can vary from steady to a sometimes-fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent intense customer interactions and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes-noisy environment. Duties The Chief ensures delivery of high‑quality, safe, and efficient diagnostic and interventional imaging services to veterans Ensures full compliance with all Veterans Health Administration (VHA) directives, handbooks, and national radiology program requirements Ensures adherence to VHA imaging standards, modality protocols, radiation safety rules, and accreditation standards Coordinates with the National Radiology Program Office on national initiatives, reporting, and clinical practice updates Supports VA‑wide quality, patient safety, and High Reliability Organization (HRO) programs Implements VHA strategic initiatives including modernization efforts and enterprise imaging technologies Ensures compliance with VHA peer review, quality management, and adverse event reporting requirements Collaborates with VISN leadership to support workload sharing and imaging optimization efforts Ensures participation in VHA readiness, emergency response, and continuity of operations planning Directs and coordinates all Radiology Service activities, develops and implements policies, manages budget and resources, and oversees credentialing and privileging Maintains standards for diagnostic imaging and interventional procedures, ensures timely interpretation and reporting, and monitors quality metrics and patient safety Supports graduate medical education programs, promotes continuing education, and facilitates research activities Chairs or participates in QA and Peer Review committees, implements performance improvement initiatives Serves as liaison between Radiology Service and other departments, represents Radiology Service on facility and VISN committees Reports to the Chief of Staff and collaborates with Associate Chief of Radiology, Chief Technologist, Health Systems Specialist, and other section leaders Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 4:00 pm Benefits: comprehensive total rewards package including competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases, 50–55 days of paid time off per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, possible 5 days paid absence for CME), traditional federal pension with 5‑year vesting, federal 401(k) with up to 5% contribution by VA, federal health/vision/dental/term life/long‑term care insurance (many programs can be carried into retirement), one full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory, CME reimbursement up to $1,000 per year (must be full‑time with board certification), free liability protection with tail coverage, no physician employment contract with no significant restriction on moonlighting. #J-18808-Ljbffr Nahse
