Parent Educator (Part-Time, Bilingual Spanish)
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Parent Educator Supervisor, the Parent Educator provides parent education, developmental information, and family support services to families with children prenatal through kindergarten entry. This position is responsible for planning and facilitating engaging Parents as Teachers (PAT) Group Connections that promote healthy child development, strengthen parenting skills, and build supportive relationships among families.
The Parent Educator serves as a representative of Boldli within the community and works collaboratively with partner sites to foster strong relationships, coordinate services, and create welcoming environments where families can learn, connect, and thrive.
Bilingual Requirement: Candidates must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in both English and Spanish and be able to effectively communicate with Spanish-speaking families and community partners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Group Facilitation & Family Engagement
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate Parents as Teachers Group Connections for families with children prenatal through age five.
- Create engaging, culturally responsive, and developmentally appropriate group experiences that support parent-child interaction, child development, family well-being, and social connections.
- Facilitate discussions and activities that encourage participation, learning, and peer support among families.
- Effectively manage group dynamics, navigate challenging situations, and foster an inclusive and respectful environment for all participants.
- Build trust and rapport with families while recognizing and respecting diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.
- Promote positive parent-child interactions and strengthen caregivers' knowledge of child development and parenting practices.
- Connect families to community resources and support services that address identified needs and family goals.
Community Partnership Development
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with partner sites, including schools, community centers, nonprofit organizations, faith-based organizations, and other community agencies.
- Serve as the primary liaison between Boldli and assigned partner sites.
- Coordinate scheduling, logistics, communication, and event planning with site contacts.
- Represent Boldli professionally in the community and promote awareness of Parents as Teachers services.
- Participate in outreach and recruitment activities to engage new families and strengthen community partnerships.
Program Implementation & Documentation
- Conduct developmental screenings and family-centered activities as assigned.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation in accordance with Parents as Teachers model requirements and agency policies.
- Utilize Visit Tracker and other required data systems to document services, attendance, outcomes, and referrals.
- Maintain client confidentiality and uphold professional and ethical standards at all times.
- Assist families with transitions to community resources, educational programs, and other supportive services as needed.
Professional Development & Quality Improvement
- Successfully complete and maintain Parents as Teachers Parent Educator Certification and all required annual professional development.
- Participate in reflective supervision, staff meetings, and continuous quality improvement activities.
- Remain current on best practices in early childhood development, family engagement, and parent education.
- Support the mission, vision, and values of Boldli.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Social Work, Family Studies, Psychology, Education, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of two years of experience working with young children, families, parent education programs, or community-based services.
- Fluency in English and Spanish, including speaking, reading, writing, and translating information accurately and professionally.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate groups and engage diverse audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusting relationships with families, community partners, and colleagues.
- Ability to effectively manage group dynamics, resolve conflicts, and encourage participation from all attendees.
- Strong organizational, time management, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining consistent communication with supervisors and team members.
- Proficiency with Google, email, virtual meeting platforms, and electronic data systems.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and family-centered practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Parents as Teachers, home visiting, family support, or early childhood programs.
- Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
- Knowledge of child development, family engagement strategies, and community resources.
- Experience facilitating workshops, support groups, or educational programming.
Physical and Other Requirements
- Ability to travel throughout the Metro Detroit area and transport program materials.
- Valid Michigan driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance.
- Ability to pass all required background checks and fingerprint clearances.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry program materials and supplies up to 25 pounds.
Schedule
- Part-Time (20 hrs.)
- Flexible schedule, including evenings, and weekends
- Community-based position with travel to partner sites throughout the service area.
