Job Summary

The Kitchen Utility Worker supports the daily operations of the hospital kitchen by maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of food service areas. This role plays a critical part in ensuring a safe, sanitary, and efficient environment that supports patient care, staff meals, and visitor dining services.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, trays, utensils, pots, and pans
• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, workstations, floors, and storage areas
• Assist with food preparation tasks as assigned, including portioning and basic prep
• Transport food carts, supplies, and waste safely throughout the facility
• Dispose of trash and recycling according to hospital and safety guidelines
• Follow all infection control, food safety, and sanitation standards
• Adhere to hospital policies, OSHA regulations, and HACCP guidelines
• Report safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, or sanitation concerns promptly
• Support kitchen staff during peak service times as needed

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Prior food service or utility experience preferred, but not required
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Knowledge of basic sanitation and food safety practices
• Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods of time
• Frequent bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling (up to 40 lbs)
• Ability to work in hot, wet, and noisy kitchen environments
