The College of Engineering at UC Berkeley is recognized for its educational and research excellence, consistently ranking among the top three Engineering colleges in the United States. With more than 240 regular faculty members, 2,500+ graduate students, and 4,000+ undergraduate students located in seven academic departments. Engineering is the second largest college on the Berkeley campus. The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) in both the College of Engineering and the Division of Computing Data Science and Society (CDSS), is the largest department on the Berkeley campus, consisting of over 130 faculty, adjunct, active emeriti and PIR appointments, 3,200+ undergraduates both in the College of Engineering and College of CDSS, 700+ graduate students, and 60+ staff members. EECS programs are consistently ranked in the top three by many measures, including U.S. News & World Report's national and global ranking. The annual operating budget, not including research expenditures for EECS, is $45+ million. The Department is actively engaged in teaching and research in the disciplines of Artificial Intelligence, Computational Biology, Databases, Graphics, Hardware / Architecture, Human-Computer Interaction, Operating Systems / Networking, Programming Systems / Software, Scientific Computing, Theory, Vision (in Computer Science) as well as Biosystems, Communication/Networking, Communications/Physical Layer, Control, Design, Modeling, and Analysis, Electromagnetics/Antennas, Integrated Circuits, Optics, Physical Electronics Devices, Physical Electronics/MEMS, Optoelectronics, Energy, Robotics, Signal Processing for Image & Video, Signal Processing for Speech & Audio (in Electrical Engineering). Computer Science operates research and instructional laboratories in Gateway and Sutardja Dai Hall, and Electrical Engineering operates like facilities in Cory Hall and Sutardja Dai Hall. EECS also has a significant technical staff support structure to provide support for research and instructional laboratories and fabrication facilities. Reporting to the Director of EECS Undergraduate Affairs, responsibilities for this position include providing a wide range of student services, duties, and responsibilities for an academic department/school/college, or organization. Assists the Dean/Chair, Faculty, and students in academic advising, recruitment, admissions, financial aid, the evaluation and awarding of fellowships, student orientation and events, career counseling, and related programs. In addition, this position provides scheduling, enrollment management, and educational services to current and prospective students, faculty, campus constituents, and the general public. The position also assists CS, EECS, and ECE majors and intended majors in academic advising, recruitment, financial aid, admissions, student orientations, events, and related programs. This role also oversees the recently approved Electronic Intelligent Systems (EIS) Minor, and will advise on the EIS track of the CDSS CS major when it is formally approved. 30% Academic Advising:- Identifies and refers for resolution intricate student issues/grievances such as alleged discrimination, complex grade dispute issues, and students' personal crises; recommends petition exceptions that affect the requirements of multiple departments; facilitates new course approval through interaction with the Coordination of College Policy, Academic Senate, or similar organization.
- Provides advising to students from the three majors on campus: College of Engineering, EECS and ECE majors, and the CDSS Computer Science major. Serves as a first-line resource for current undergraduates on departmental policies and requirements, faculty, academic resources, undergraduate research, mentoring, tutoring, scholarships, internships, and career planning resources; refers students appropriately to staff, faculty, and campus units for information and assistance. Provides general advice and assistance to students on academic and major requirements, alternative academic options, and similar issues. Uses electronic resources, such as the departmental Ed STEM site and social media outlets, to provide advising to students.
- Provides outreach to students who are struggling most in EECS courses, referring them to resources and strategizing about how to improve their study habits. This requires a high level of understanding of the coursework as well as counseling skills to build trust and make recommendations. Also handles students experiencing crises and makes appropriate referrals.
- In consultation with the Director for EECS Undergraduate Affairs, identifies and refers for resolution intricate student issues/grievances such as suicide prevention, stress and depression, alleged discrimination, and identifies valid alternative majors for those students denied from the EECS and ECE majors.
- Advises students on the EECS/CS Minors, and administers all aspects of the minor program-including declaration and certifying completion for annotation of diplomas.
30% Program Oversight:
- Within an academic department/school/college, provides and makes recommendations for, the improvement of Scheduling and Enrollment Management. This position is responsible for one of the largest and most complex scheduling and enrollment management caseloads on the Berkeley campus.
- Devises curriculum planning in collaboration with chair/dean and faculty, and with other departments, to ensure students' progress through course sequences, avoiding conflicts, and ensuring compliance with campus-wide policies. Reviews course requirements and student course progression, and advises the department on scheduling needs. Draft a schedule of courses to be offered each term based upon a provided course listing, enrollment trends, and faculty availability. Collects, analyzes, and provides statistics on EE enrollment trends to the Chair, Faculty Scheduler, and department management.
- Using judgment and discretion, independently obtains classrooms for courses, taking into account the requirements and restrictions of the Campus Scheduling Office, past enrollment trends, instructor preferences, equipment and facility needs, department and campus needs. Consults with the Campus Scheduling Office and instructors on issues regarding obtaining appropriate classrooms and advises faculty and senior-level managers on options. Works with other departments to set up cross-listed and room-shared courses. Consults with and advises the faculty scheduler on student and department needs.
- Coordinates Heaven Points (faculty teaching workload) for EE faculty according to department policy. Assists the Director for EECS Undergraduate Matters with programmatic matters for the division's undergraduate program in EECS, including administration, outreach, and promotion.

- Recruitment and Admissions: Advises department/school/college on outreach strategies, and helps identify targeted institutions to meet the organization's goals; coordinates, reviews, and advises chair/dean and faculty on transferability and applicability of non-UC Berkeley courses.
- Works with prospective majors in both EECS and ECE. Assists with determining admissions to the ECE Major at the departmental level. Enlists the support of faculty in difficult admission decision cases. Serves as a liaison for faculty evaluation of pending articulation agreements with California Community Colleges.
- Plans and implements outreach programs with specifically targeted institutions; advises prospective applicants on necessary academic preparation; and discusses the appropriateness of the program as it pertains to the prospective applicant's goals.
- In collaboration with the Director of EECS Undergraduate Affairs, advises prospective majors in both CS, EECS, and ECE. May assist with determining admissions to the Computer Science Major at the departmental level. Serves as a liaison for faculty evaluation of pending articulation agreements with California Community Colleges. Serves as the lead for or helps with the coordination of Cal Day planning and is heavily involved with Golden Bear Orientation, Golden Bear Welcome, and recruiting.
- Plans and implements complex, high-visibility student events, and ensures that implementation is effective and lasting. Co-coordinates Commencement reception and Cal Day; manages, catering, and enlists staff and student volunteers to assist.
- Plans, designs, markets, and provides workshops for students, including transfer workshops and the departmental Golden Bear Welcome event.

- Department/School/College Policies: Advises chairs/deans on the formulation of department/school/college policy by advising them on areas needing clarification and identifying solutions; analyzes the consequences of the organization's academic policies and recommends new or changed policies; recommends solutions to the organization's problems without precedent.
- Advises and recommends new enrollment policies to faculty to ensure clarity and consistency in enrollment planning. Communicates policy broadly to students using webpages, social media, and one-on-one advising. Manages EE student enrollment for efficient use of classroom space and resources, and ensures students are enrolled based upon established priorities. Sets up enrollment limits, seat reservations, and other course restrictions. In consultation with faculty, drops no-shows and replaces them with the highest-priority waiting-list students.
- Prepares and submits Course Approval Forms to the Committee on Courses of the Academic Senate as additions, changes, or withdrawals of courses are submitted.
- Advises faculty on departmental/school/college and university policies and procedures; reviews students' progress and advises students and faculty on requirements for degree/program completion; identifies students with progression problems and recommends interventions; devises curriculum planning in collaboration with chair/dean and faculty, and with other departments.
5% Professional Development:
- Participates in professional student services committees that develop policies/procedures with nationwide impact.
- Maintains and updates working knowledge of College and campus student affairs issues by taking appropriate classes, attending campus-wide Student Affairs meetings, and networking with peers. Keeps abreast of national trends related to advising support as well as best practices in student affairs administration.

It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
