Responsible for covering clinical offices based on operational need. Assists in the examination and treatment of patients, take vital signs, record patient charges, record patient history, assist in minor office procedures. Participate in patient education, communicating effectively with others and functioning in the scope of practice. Thorough knowledge of infection control and aseptic techniques.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Current California licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Graduate of accredited school of Licensed Vocational Nursing. One (1) year previous experience in an ambulatory care setting.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: Current California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license, current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association and IV certification required. Current ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - American Heart Association certification required.

Essential functions are those tasks, duties and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the job's purpose and objectives. Essential functions are critical or fundamental to the performance of the job. They are the major functions for which the person in the job is held accountable.

1. Review patient medical record prior to visit to ensure chart readiness for physician. 2. Interview patients; measure vital signs, pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height; record information on patient's chart. 3. Prepare treatment room for examination of patients; assist physician with procedures; clean examination room and sterilize appropriate equipment after use. 4. Explain procedures and treatments to patients and their family in order to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension. 5. Administer treatments, and perform routine laboratory tests under supervision of a Physician, Allied Health Professional, or a Registered Nurse. 6. Initiate intravenous lines, add plain IV fluids to existing lines, and discontinue lines under the direction of the Physician or an Allied Health Professional (must be IV certified). 7. Complete all documentation to ensure accurate medical records. Assure that physician has signed chart; review physician orders to verify that all orders have been carried out. Return patient chart to medical records. 8. Inventory and order medical supplies and materials, as needed. 9. Responsible for ensuring all expired sample medications and patient supplies are discarded upon expiration date. 10. Function in the LVN scope of practice and Riverside Medical Clinic policies and procedures. 11. Provide functional/technical assistant to Medical Assistants. 12. Maintains current California LVN licensure and BLS certificate.
